Consumer-services marketplace books a loss of $8.3 million
Angies List Inc. said Wednesday its revenue grew 11%, but it was less than analysts had expected as gross paid membership additions fell 27% for the services marketplace and consumer-review company....

I had a 3 year membership, and it’s almost up. I already emailed them that I had no intention of renewing.
Yup. We dumped our subscription the day that Angie’s List came out in favor of homosexual marriage. Many of our friends did likewise.
There was also a report about the ratings and how companies paid for good ratings vs honest opinions. The more the company paid.. the higher on the list they were listed.
Looks like the Gaystapo thing isn’t working out for Angie.
I probably spend $5000 per year on Life, Home, Auto insurance - it only goes to companies headquarter'd south of the Mason-Dixon line.
Allying oneself with less than 3% of the population usually isn’t a sound business strategy.
I heard a similar story regarding YELP reviews online from my dentist. I had been going to him for years. I looked up his phone number on the internet and came across three bad reviews of his business. He stated he knew each customer and incident. He had contacted Yelp to have those reviews removed. They stated if you paid us $500 we could remove those bad reviews from the internet. It reminded me of the way the mafia would operate: “nice business you have here, it would be a shame if something happened to it.”
Makes me wonder how we got by the first 200+ years without an “Angie’s list” to tell us how to pick a vendor.
What a racket.

I do too and that’s not including health insurance.
It’s a scam outfit anyway. Plenty of online reviews FREE for most services.
Is there anything in the article that links the drop off to Angie’s List support of sodomy?
I think I read in another article that Angie’s List has never made a profit in all the years they’ve been in business. I can’t understand how these internet companies survive while losing money. I guess they’re worth more than they’re worth.
That is not quite right...
Ratings and opinions come from people served by the company.
IF you have good reviews, you can pay for advertising. Part of the advertising “deal” is your business gets placed at the top of the search list in the call center and/or search engine. The company has to already have good reviews under their belt to be eligible.
Is that a bit deceiving to the consumer? I guess it is debatable as most folks will take the first 3 or so listings to call.
I cancelled my membership and was very loud and forceful about it. I let them know exactly why I cancelled, that I was also telling family and friends and I will disparage their company to anyone who came to my business saying they found me through AL.
This is true. As a business owner I am in there. While they say they don’t take advertising, they are real fast to offer better placement with a paid fee to them. AL is a scam.
