What Donald Trump was up to while John McCain was suffering as a prisoner of war
Washington Post ^ | July 20, 2015 | By Michael E. Miller and Fred Barbash

It was the spring of 1968 and Donald Trump had it good.

He was 21 years old and handsome with a full head of hair. He avoided the Vietnam War draft on his way to earning an Ivy League degree. He was fond of fancy dinners, beautiful women and outrageous clubs. Most important, he had a job in his father’s real estate company and a brain bursting with money-making ideas that would make him a billionaire.

“When I graduated from college, I had a net worth of perhaps $200,000,” he said in his 1987 autobiography “Trump: The Art of the Deal,” written with Tony Schwartz. (That’s about $1.4 million in 2015 dollars.) “I had my eye on Manhattan.”

More than 8,000 miles away, John McCain sat in a tiny, squalid North Vietnamese prison cell. The Navy pilot’s body was broken from a plane crash, starvation, botched operations and months of torture.

Trump either issues a solid apology to America’s Troops, yes especially those captured,...or stick a fork in it, he’s done. And he better do it quick. YOU DON’T ATTACK OUR TROOPS SACRIFICE AND SUFFERING.

Already Trump has dropped behind Walker....just heard it on Rush’s Show.

and we need Trump, he is the only one speaking about what the rest of the GOPer are too cowardly to touch...but its up to Trump.

The only neighborhoods the GOP candidate Lhota carried on Manhattan were Turtle Bay-East Midtown (51%), Yorkville (53%), and Upper East Side-Carnegie Hill (61%).

Purest delusion. The anti war movement was, from the outset, a Communist-led organization, a follow-on from the “ban the bomb” movement (hence the “peace symbol” which was originally the “ban the bomb” symbol).

I could care less about the useless, testicle-less YAF. Words, not risk.

Vietnam was a center of effort for the communist world. Their new “National Liberation War” - externally-assisted civil war - was the centerpiece of Soviet intervention. Vietnam’s harbors threatened the sea lanes like the Straits of Malacca, which in turn controlled supplies to Japan, South Korea, and the Phillipines. The Soviets and all of the Warsaw Pact and China knew what the issues were, even if self-protecting dimwits didn’t.

Those of us who went knew what the issues were and who were the enemy. We took the load for all of you comfortable “experts” who rationalized your way into supporting the Soviets as “conservatives”.

Make what excuses you will. You made the choice all those years ago to let other young men carry the fight in your place and you have to live with it.

And then we had the cowardly, excuse-finding non-males who were perfectly fine with letting other young men take the risks in their places.

Sorry, but that’s they way it is.

I'm trying to point out that originally conservatives opposed the war and Kennedy (the Democrats, liberal agenda) sent in more advisors, which escalated to what the Viet Nam War became. Then, it flipped. Republicans waved the patriotic flag, and the anti-war movement took over Democratic sentiment.

In one sense, what we have is a confusion of terms. The Anti-War Movement, which I'll grant had communist intentions was not the same as those who opposed the war because of isolationist leanings.

God, I’ve already forgotten the name of the GOP candidate. Did or did not DeBlasio punish the UES during the blizzard?

Koch was warm? I don’t exactly remember that. Sorry. I guess living in Manhattan for 40 years wore out my memory.

"we need Trump, he is the only one speaking about what the rest of the GOPer are too cowardly to touch"

He's brought up some important issues concerning immigration to be sure and I hope that he spurs debate among the other candidates about it, but IMO he's a carny barker. He's never done anything on these issues and reporters have even found illegal immigrants working at some of his places. He brushed it off in an interview that I saw as sub-contractors but the point remains, if this was a big item with him he wouldn't have any illegals at his casinos and hotels. He'd have made a point of it.

Luntz called him a “war hero.” Trump brought in the reference to him being a POW—”he’s a war hero because he was caputured.” While Luntz’s comment implies “war heroes” should get some type of favorable treatment, Trump should have found another way to undermine the argument. I realize Trump is trying to be flippant, but his comment basically is that POW’s cannot be war heroes because they were stupid enough to be caputured.

“I like people that weren’t captured.””

Then he likes most Vets, doesn’t he. Those out there fighting and not captured, which are and were most Vets. You can feel sorry for any Vets that have been captured. I’m not sure when being captured became by definition synonymous with war hero. I always thought of a war hero as someone who took risks to save his fellow warriors from harm or went above and beyond the call of duty in heroic deeds on the battlefield. Somewhere along the line the definition now seems to include war captives.

I’m not in objection to this; however I can see where many might not include captives in that definition. Were those soldiers held in prison camps in WWI or WWII given the appellation “war hero”? Does anyone know? I’m curious. How has that term changed over time?

“Already Trump has dropped behind Walker....just heard it on Rush’s Show.”

Only in Iowa where Walker was always in the lead up until a brief time by Trump. Walker just announced, so of course he would get a big bump up in Iowa where he has been in the lead for the majority of the time anyhow. I’m surprised Trump managed to knock Walker off even for a few moments in Iowa. But he is still second there, even now. Plus who knows what a couple of weeks will bring in the polls.

Rudy should’ve been dragged kicking and screaming to run again. Lhota was the weakest and most desultory GOP candidate to run in 3 decades.

As for Kaiser Wilhelm’s punishing the UES, he’s pretty much punishing everyone with his willful incompetence (he’s like Lindsay, Dinkins and Zero all rolled into one).

Did I pay Koch an unintended compliment calling him “warm” ? I guess I view him through the prism of his being such a booster for the city.

I don’t think Guiliani wants to run. Making too much money in the private sector, I guess. I would like him to come back and maybe he’ll be drafted. Who knows. But, as Koch might say, The voters voted for DeBlasio and the voters must be punished.

You know, I don’t understand how people can’t see that Trump was joking. He jokes a lot. Do people perhaps not perceive or understand his NY vibe?

I may have made a misleading comment, I was thinking I had found an article containing comments by POWs, can’t find it now so it might have been vets, not POW.

My Flash isn’t working so I can’t watch the videos, and can’t get it to update yet, that’s why I was looking for the text article and haven’t found it.

Video here

http://united-states.beforeitsnews.com/politics/2013/06/john-mccain-made-more-than-32-communist-videos-speaking-out-against-the-united-states-2527754.html

From another FR thread

Hiding info:

McCain Military record. By an unidentified marine, take it with a grain of salt.

I still can’t find the link to the text page with info about McCain’s confessions and propaganda tapes. Just the link to the 1st video above.

Do you know how silly this sounds to most thinking people. Trump’s response is if you know of some at his new hotel construction site in Washington D.C. which is the site the Washington Post wrote of finding illegals at, then tell me so we can fire them. Trump has them vetted properly and carefully by his sub-contractors, and if any slip through because of lying, Trump will fire them.

Trump likes firing people. So come on reporters, out your finds of illegals to Trump so he can fire them, you liberal reporters who so eagerly support the illegal aliens position. Out them so Trump can have them fired. I’m sure the illegals will appreciate your help.

WaPo coming to McSain’s defense, how nice. That ought to give you a perspective on where he and Trump stand on the political spectrum.

Do you know how silly you sound? Of course no illegal is going to give his name because he will get fired!! The point is he’ll fire them now because he’s running for President and this is his platform. But all those years of building his empire he didn’t make this a big issue. If it saved him money on costs, he had no problem with using illegals. If this was such a big issue for him, he would have let it be known to his contractors and sub contractors. Any illegals found and you’re in violation of the contract. He only cares now because he’s running for President!

Actually, Trump has a great sense of humor. But the drive by’s and the Dems and liberal folks know that; they wilfully choose to treat his joking comments as something serious so they can further slam him. Plus I have found most liberals I have known in life to be a fairly humorless lot themselves.
