McCain’s A-4 was the one that ate the Zuni that misfired. Thing went right into his fuel tank, which ruptured and ignited.
McCain stressed his bird, climbed out on it’s refueling probe and then jumped through the flames to get away. There was nothing else he could do. He didn’t cause the fire, just dealt with itbas best he could.
The reason he transferred off the Forrestal is simple to understand: the aft 1/3 of the ship was DESTROYED down to the waterline. The airwing (which is separate from the ship’s company) was transferred off while the ship went back to Norfolk to get rebuilt. There was no reason for the airwing to stay with the ship. He ended up going to Oriskany, from where he was shot down.
There’s a lot of stuff to despise McCain over, but his actions on Forrestal aren’t it. Calling those charges BS is an understatement ...

I knew an old rancher lady who showed me big glossy 8X10s her husband took of many bomb tests in the Pacific. He was a Navy photographer. There were shots of the setup, blast, mushroom, aftermath. I asked what happened to him. “Oh, he died of cancer in 1959.”
Some accounts say McCain’s plane was hit but it was the one next too him and that pilot died. Three major carrier fires Oriskany, Enterprise, and Forestall. All McCain could reasonably do was run. All hell was fixing to unleash and not even today’s shipboard fire fighting systems would have likely stopped the bombs from going off that followed.
I always felt like McCain was the republican Kerry.

Correction to Congressman Dornan’s remarks towards the end of the video:
Bob Dornan was describing how McCain as the son of a famous Admiral was offered a chance to go home and leave the other POWs to remain behind for 5 years to undergo unspeakable torture. Dornan then erroneously attributed McCain’s refusal to go home as a decision on his part and his father’s part to save his future political career.
It was later disclosed by Admiral Stockdale who was the Commanding Officer of all POWs inside the Hanoi Hilton that he denied all POWs any chance to go home early if it meant leaving even one POW behind.
So it wasn’t McCain’s refusal, it was Admiral Stockdale’s order.
To this day McCain and his sycophants in the media and his campaign tout ‘his’ refusal as a POW to go home early as evidence of his patriotism and concern for his fellow POWs thereby affirming his status as a ‘War Hero’ even though he was never once cited for heroism or bravery.

My congressman just posted a statement supporting McCain on FB of the 26 posts 25 are crucifying him. Many are vets. More then half are threatening to pull all support for his senate race or re eleaction. The video has been posted on his FB post. He sure misread his supporters
