James Holmes, the gunman behind the Dark Knight massacre in Colorado last July, has reportedly turned Muslim and prays five times a day.

The killer showed off a lengthy, thick beard during a court appearance earlier this month, and a prison source has claimed it is a symbol of his new-found faith.

The source said Holmes has turned to Islam as a way of justifying his horrific murder spree in an Aurora, Colorado cinema on July 20 which left 12 people dead and 58 people wounded.

What other religion would suit a violent mental case?

“Will the jury deciding the penalty get to hear this?”

Actually, they might. But only the defendant or his lawyers can raise the issue, as a character testimonial. Defendant's counsel could certainly tell the jury "he prays five times a day."

Whether or not the jurors in Colorado would be permitted to consider it as anything other than a purely positive character issue having nothing to do with a specific religion per se is highly unlikely.

Don't know about the wording of CO law, but it is expressly forbidden in Federal death penalty cases under the US Code https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/18/3593

In particular:

(f) Special Precaution To Ensure Against Discrimination.— In a hearing held before a jury, the court, prior to the return of a finding under subsection (e), shall instruct the jury that, in considering whether a sentence of death is justified, it shall not consider the race, color, religious beliefs, national origin, or sex of the defendant or of any victim and that the jury is not to recommend a sentence of death unless it has concluded that it would recommend a sentence of death for the crime in question no matter what the race, color, religious beliefs, national origin, or sex of the defendant or of any victim may be. The jury, upon return of a finding under subsection (e), shall also return to the court a certificate, signed by each juror, that consideration of the race, color, religious beliefs, national origin, or sex of the defendant or any victim was not involved in reaching his or her individual decision and that the individual juror would have made the same recommendation regarding a sentence for the crime in question no matter what the race, color, religious beliefs, national origin, or sex of the defendant or any victim may be.

Or he's trying to look just full of crazy.

The jury didn't believe "the crazy" was anything but an act.

Retroactive Jihad?

Makes me wonder; If all the mass-shooters, of recent years, had survived - how many would have come out as Muslims?

Hmmmm?

All POS when convicted of murder, should be allowed one year and only two appeals before being exterminated.
Case in point, Manson, is living on our dime and should have been room temperature along time ago. Drug lord Chapa is another example!

"That’s good news. I’d hate to think that he found Jesus and would wind up in heaven one day."

That's Good? That's your idea of Good News? That the sinner dies in his sins and is damned?

Your 'god' sounds like a "bad-news god" to me. It's evidently not the one that Ezekiel --- instructed by the Holy Spirit --- talks about when he says:

Ezekiel 18:23
Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD. Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?

Ezekiel 18:32
For I take no pleasure in the death of anyone, declares the Sovereign LORD. Repent and live!

Or as Paul said, instructed by Christ:

1 Tim. 2:4
"God wills that all men be saved, and come to the knowledge of the truth."

That’s what I think too. He may have been crazy - it seems that his behavior had been weird for some time - but I wouldnt be surprised to find that he was already a a Muslim. Islam is very attractive to crazy people, if for nothing else than that it gives them a reason to kill and makes them feel justified.

Lighten up. It was comment on how most people like him suddenly find Jesus when their sentencing phase comes up.

Continuing on with your proof text:

5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people.

He chose to start ritually worshiping Satan five times a day. Obviously, God did not choose him to be among the Elect. Or if you choose to believe in free will, then Holmes chose to not have Jesus as his mediator.

Either way, justice is served on earth and in heaven.

He (the terrorist) may have been introduced to someone through his training for competition. They may have said, study these Koran verses, and dedicate yourself to Allah if he will help you win the next Championship. A Faustian Pact is reached, in a moment of competitive, superstitious zeal. Lo and behold, he does win the next Championship. The next day, the “training assistant” reconnects, all ready to collect the young man’s soul.
