Following the shooting death of four Marines in Chattanooga, Gov. Asa Hutchinson has authorized Arkansas National Guard Adjutant General Mark Berry to arm full-time military personnel.
The governor also ordered the Arkansas flag to be flown at half-staff on Monday (July 20), according to a news release.
Our hearts break at the news of another senseless act of violence and terror, this time out of Chattanooga, Governor Hutchinson said. Our prayers go out to all the families of the victims, especially the family of Staff Sgt. David Wyatt of Russellville, one of Arkansass own.
He continued, I want to join in those who are calling for greater security at our recruiting stations and military installations. Weve had numerous instances of attacks. Clearly they are a target, and for us to have unarmed military personnel makes no sense, which is why I am directing Major General Mark Berry to arm full-time personnel as he deems necessary at military installations.
God Bless you Governor Hutchinson. YOU ARE A GREAT AMERICAN!
Yes, very good for him.
Good....finally....
Sad only one governor has done this. Good for his state troops.
One state safe for our military. Only 56 to go (by 0bama’s count) or 49 by American’s count.
Hutchinson has already caved though on religious freedom.
Just saw this. Oklahoma’s governor doing the same:

Thank you Governor Hutchinson! All Governors should follow his lead.
The right decision.
At least someone has some balls to do something.
Don’t count on our elected majority to do anything, they are busy counting their Lobbyist money.
They have real work to do.
POS, may they all rot in hell.
Honestly if this happened not too long ago all governors would have said this right away. ANd the president woulda probably said so too.
Instead now in 2016 we get just two governors with a brain, and a president who goes to the theater.
Ok military personnel, do not keep a round in the chamber. Safety first.
He has to make up for running away from First Amendment protection for bakers, photographers and other business owners from LGBT attack.
Asa Hutchinson caved back in March of this year under pressure from business elites like the Little Rock Chamber of Commerce and Wal-Mart CEO Doug McMillon.
They demanded that there be no Constitutional protection for those who oppose gay marriage and Hutchinson complied.
I think this governor is a coward and is doing this because it makes him look good.
A good followup to this symbolic act and more meaningful one would be the deployment of armed National Guard to protect military recruiting stations in AR.
A REGULAR MILITARY RECRUITING STATION WAS TARGETED BY THE TERRORIST, NOT THE NATIONAL GUARD OR ITS INSTALLATIONS.
I agree with the poster and note my previous post.
Hutchinson or any other governor should deploy their NG to protect the military recruiters from the regular military at their stations since they will be kept unarmed by the Pentagon.
Another example of symbolism from the typical 95 percent of Republican politicians who either fake or repudiate conservatism.
A futile response to a Trojan horse.
Do you piss in your own Cheerios too?
