The Boy Scouts of America (BSA) has unanimously approved a resolution to end the organisation's ban on gay adults working as leaders.
The group's National Executive Board will meet to ratify the resolution on 27 July, the Boy Scouts said in a statement.
It is a major step towards ending a policy that has caused deep rifts in the group, which was set up in 1910.
The BSA voted to end a ban on allowing open gay boys to become scouts in 2013.
Earlier this year, former US defence secretary Robert Gates, who is BSA president, told the group's national meeting that the ban on gay adults needed to end, saying it was no longer sustainable.

That is why this decision makes no sense at all... NONE. Would the Girl Scouts of America allow a straight man to take girls camping? NO!
So why would the Boy Scouts say a gay man can watch after boys?
This makes no sense at all. My son turns 7 in a few months and I used to be very excited about sending him to our local BSA to join the Cub Scouts. Some of my best childhood memories and experiences were in the Scouts and now my son will not get to experience this family tradition.
Being for or against the homosexual lifestyle is besides the point, it is irrelevant in this case. I would not send my daughter to scout if a new policy was adopted to allow straight men to watch them on a camping trip. Does this mean I am anti-straight men?

Well this Scout Oath will have to reworded. Nothing morally straight about a sex pervert and I could care less what Anthony Kennedy says. I obey God and no one else.
“On my honor, I will do my best, to do my duty, to God and my country, and to obey the Scout Law, to help other people at all times, to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight.”
With this vote, they just did.
Watch as the membership shrinks to a shadow of its former size within months.

Every parent who puts their child in BSA and the child is molested should be charged.
How many parents want to send their young boys on overnight camping trips with leaders who want to be “openly gay”?

In America...I can’t effort to disband an organization that now caters directly to the whims of sexual deviants and pedophiles?!
I sincerely hope that any parent who truly loves their son will take him out of the BSA (I suppose now the GSA?).
I truly grieve for any boy who has gender dysphoria and instead of his parents getting him the therapy and counseling that will successfully treat him, they place him into a nest of sexual predators that will eventually lead to his destruction.
That’s too horrible to contemplate—let’s all agree in prayer together that that never, ever happens! Rape is a type of murder!
I’m going to pray right now, that if any of those filthy perverted vermin lay even a finger on any boy in any troop in the BSA, that that monster drops in their tracks right then and there.

There should be a massive walk-out, and an alternative club that stays true to the BSA’s mission.
