WHINOS: On the Martyrdom of the Holy, Holy Base
National Review ^ | July 12, 2015 | Kevin D. Williamson

Posted on 07/12/2015 12:22:24 PM PDT by EveningStar

... You know the RINO — Republican In Name Only — but you may be less familiar with the WHINO. The WHINO is a captive of the populist Right’s master narrative, which is the tragic tale of the holy, holy base, the victory of which would be entirely assured if not for the machinations of the perfidious Establishment. Never mind the Democrats, economic realities, Putin, ISIS, the geographical facts of the U.S.-Mexico border — all would be well and all manner of things would be well if not for the behind-the-scenes plotting of Mitch McConnell, John Boehner, and their enablers, who apparently can be bribed with small numbers of cocktail weenies. The WHINO is a Republican conspiracy theorist, in whose fervid imaginings all the players — victims, villains — are Republicans.

Barack Obama? Pshaw. The real enemy is Jeb Bush ...

He seems to be pushing all the right buttons in a more elegant Trump sort of way.

Cross posting to the thread where Williamson is exposed as just another butt-hurt Jeb Bush groupie at the National Review.

The only people I see whining, are the ones terrified of Trump.

We gave the Democrats and conventional Republicans the nation for the better part of 175 years.

Has it worked out for us? Well?

Trump troubles me, and he excites me. He excites me for the mere reason that he actually addresses our nation’s biggest problems. Who else has? Crickets!

He’s big enough to tell the media to stuff it. He’s smart enough to avoid their traps and labels.

The same way Reagan had the press on a leash, Trump does.

He’s bigger than life. They don’t know what to do with him.

In upcoming months we can expect to hear about every sordid detail of Trump’s life. People who chose not to report any of Obama’s negatives, will strive without sleep to find Trump’s.

Democrats will hate him. Republicans will hate him. Conservatives will hate him.

I am reminded to the guy shipwrecked on an island.

He prayed to God to deliver him back to civilization.

One day a helicopter landed on his island. The pilot asked if he wanted a ride back to civilization. The man said no, I have faith God will provide.

Another day a cruise ship spotted him and sent out a small boat to check on him. Again, he declined help saying he had faith that God would provide.

Another day a submarine (of all things) came up near the island. It’s crew also offered help. Once again, the man refused, saying he knew God would provide.

Years passed. The man finally died on the island. At the pearly gates he meets God. Obviously in awe, he still has one question for Him.

God, why did you allow me to die on the island? I had faith in you. I knew you would provide, but you didn’t.

God looked at him and said, “I sent a helicopter, a ship, and a submarine. You refused their help, my help.”

Folks, Donald Trump is not my idea of how I wish to be rescued, but I’d be a fool to not take a real hard look at the man. In effect I’d be telling God that I won’t accept deliverance unless it’s my perfect minds eye of it.

Trump is not right on some issues. I’ll grant you that. Lets at least get some issues taken care of. We can get others taken care of in the next administration.

No matter how bad Trump will be, he wouldn’t be as bad as Hillary or anyone else on the Left.

If anyone here thinks they share the same concerns Trump does about our leading problems, they’re dead wrong.

The Republicans don’t either.

This may be how we get rescued.

Trump said something very interesting several days ago. He said, I thought there were about 11 million illegals in the country up until last week. Now I hear there may be upwards of 30 million. That was new to me.

This guy is open to new thoughts.

He also said he sticks up for himself because everyone should stick up for themselves. He also said that he likes to be right, but if proven wrong he’ll admit it and try to set things right.

Have we had another person like this in 28 years?

Not since Reagan have we had someone better positioned to help save this nation.

Immigration
Trade
National Debt
Military
Obamacare
Jobs

That’s pretty good for starters.

He fights. He isn’t afraid of a fight.

At the moment the only two people in the race that interest me are Cruz and Trump. They are the only ones who will cause me to stop what I’m doing to hear what they have to say. No one else in public life has anything to say worth hearing.

Great post.

Churchill wasn’t *perfect*, either. You just never know who God may send.

I pray for His protection over Trump and my Sen Ted Cruz...both are fighting the fights - for this nation - harder than anyone.

Trump and Cruz are as different as night and day. Trusting Trump is a mistake.

They may be as different as night and day, but they each support the other. I figure I can, too.

Thanks for your concern.

Very good post.

This situation reminds me of the incident when a Senator went to Lincoln and told him to replace Grant, “because Grant is an alcoholic and I can prove it”.

Lincoln famously replied, “What does he drink, because I will send a barrel of it to my other generals, because Grant fights”.

They disagree on too many issues.

I support Cruz.

I could make a long list of positions Trump has taken in the past that are the complete opposite of Cruz.

Cruz seriously hurt his chances with me when he voted for the support legislation for the new trade effort.

I’m sorry, but he said he wasn’t for the new trade deal. Then why vote for the support legislation?

I’m sick to death of the double dealing guys. Cruz may be a good guy, but this really angered me.
