3 New National Monuments Are Established by Obama
NY Times ^ | July 10 2015 | JULIE HIRSCHFELD DAVIS

President Obama announced on Friday that he was designating new national monuments covering more than a million acres in California, Texas and Nevada, his latest use of executive power to preserve public land.

Mr. Obama designated Berryessa Snow Mountain in California; a paleontological site in Texas known as Waco Mammoth; and the Basin and Range in Nevada, which includes rock art dating back 4,000 years, theWhite House said in a statement.

The designations, made under the Antiquities Act of 1906, bring to 19 the number of national monuments that Mr. Obama has established or expanded. They cover more than 260 million acres of public lands and waters. Republicans have criticized Mr. Obama, who has turned to that law more than any other president, for his expansive use of his authority to preserve sites of ecological, historical or cultural significance.

National Monuments: 3 New Areas Announced

Hardy accused Obama and Reid of pushing the Nevada monument to burnish their legacies. White House spokesman Josh Earnest called Reid an "effective advocate" for making the site a monument but wouldn't say what role his advocacy played in Obama's decision.

Reid, in an interview on Friday, shrugged off the criticism and said he believed history would favorably judge the decision.

If one man can put this land off limits, another can open them back up. Apparently we don’t have a Congress anymore.

Agenda 21 Ping - Land Grab

“The designations, made under the Antiquities Act of 1906, bring to 19 the number of national monuments that Mr. Obama has established or expanded. They cover more than 260 million acres of public lands and waters. “

260M Acres = is 406250 sq miles.

That is a landmass almost the size of Texas and California put together.

Can a future president undo any of these designations?

If a president (one guy) can make them, another president can revoke them. They could open up all the land that has been designated UN Heritage sites and all the other “monuments”.

Just like future presidents could say we’re not going to be part of prior treaties we’ve signed in the past.

They should if the public complain. Reagan’s Department of the Interior Sec. Watt went even farther to get government managed lands returned to the public for development in mining and oil drilling and other adventures. And sell government property back to the public. Of course the left howled and cried through their halitosis pie holes.

They might consider opening up the huge deposits of low sulfur coal that Clinton incorporated into a national monument (for his Indonesian buddy Riady...who owns a similar coal mine)

You mean that these monuments weren’t Bill Ayres’, Bernadine Dohrn’s and Jane Fonda’s birthplaces?

Yep. Pop on to the NYT article, press the Berryessa NM link, see the website that was already completed and ready to go, then see the thank you card thanking Obama come up (Seriously). Then click out of the thank you card, and scroll to the map. One of those big parcels in white just above Clear Lake is (was) mine. Regards and thanks for caring!
