Donald Trump is an unstable element inserted into an unsettled environment. Sooner or later there will be a boom.
He has shot up like a rocket since his June announcement but likely has a low ceiling and short staying power. He is not as popular with Republicans as Bernie Sanders is with Democrats.
Does Mr. Trump ruin the Republican brand? That tends to be the eager question of those who hope he will ruin the Republican brand. But hes his own brand. He doesnt call his hotels Republican Plaza. He spends much of his time knocking Republicans, setting himself apart from the party and its contenders.
If he says something stupid and cheap it will reflect on him. If he should say something brilliant and wise it will not redound to the benefit of the GOP.

Ahhh. More “concern” by the journal of record for the gop establishment. What would we do without their wise and selfless counsels!
I'm sure Peggy is hoping against hope that Trump's appeal has limits that would be acceptable to her.
What’s ruining the GOP brand is their refusal to do anything to secure the border and enforce the laws. The citizens are completely fed up with the illegal alien inundation.
Well Peggy, I guess programming your no matter what voters to accept a liberal probably wasn’t so great an idea in retrospect was it.
Put some ice on it Girl. It’s the lesser evil you always wanted.
but, you accepted the liberal by not voting for the Republican
No I accepted the conservative by voting for a conservative. Thats what happens when you vote. It counts for the person you vote for.
Not my fault you believed a lie and voted for the greater of two liberals.
Peggy, everybody is so over you. Get over yourself.
The status quo of open border and bending over for Obama has worked wonders for the country... (obvious sarcasm)
I wonder if Trump will listen to his buddy Michael Savage to leave Peggy alone.
” You know, shes a classy lady. And she writes these dignified, middle-of-the-road Republican columns.
Shes the kind of girl that wears white gloves to bed. Shes the kind of girl in a plead skirt that went to private school that your momma wouldve liked you to date, but shed have nothing to do with you.
We all love her to death, but [her columns] have no impact whatsoever. “
Laura Ingraham was a breath of fresh air on the Special Report panel yesterday. She really let Lane have it.
Her take on Trump is spot on. His popularity is the result of extreme disappointment in the GOP after the landslide wins given them after they ran on the same issues Trump is bringing to the forefront.
And to emphasize the point, who has done more damage to conservatism. Barry or Mitt? Who tanked his own election, Barry or mitt?
Who was the father of Romney/Obamacare and Gay marriage in America? Barry or Mitt?
Who has attacked more conservatives in the last 3 election cycles? Barry or Mitt?
It’s pretty clear to me that no one read the article....while Noonan chimes in with some predictable estab clap trap, more than half the article is positive about Trump, and she is accurate in her positive comments.
But on FR, it’s more fun to see a headline and just dive in ignorantly....
That is rich! Peggy Noonan accusing someone else of being ‘unstable’.
Does Mr. Trump ruin the Republican brand?
Oh you mean the “brand” that lost to incompetents/evils Carter, Clinton and Obama? Five times?
That “brand”?
It seems that the more people get to see and hear the Jebster, the lower his numbers go. And the other dwarfs who slandered Trump aren't doing any better.
Just call the 'Rat Sanctuary City Policy a Death to Americans Plan.
How difficult is this?
I began reading this without taking note of the writer. Back in the Reagan days I had special regard for conservative ladies such as Maggie Thatcher, Jean Kirkpatrick and Peggy Noonan. The Noonan part faded away as she became more and more inane and screwball in her writings.
As I read farther into this article and had increasing indigestion rising in my throat from some of the assinine statements I finally shouted, “Who wrote this stupid crap, anyhow,” and scrolled up to look.
I might have known; Peggy Noonan!
Indeed. Why did it take this long to start talking about it?
It’s been a powder keg for years. Pandering doesn’t win elections nor make good policy.
