Why Waukesha is the perfect launching point for Scott Walker
The News Graphic (Ozaukee Co.) ^ | 7-9-15 | Mark Belling

Posted on 07/09/2015 6:11:24 AM PDT by afraidfortherepublic

It is appropriate Scott Walker will be making his formal presidential candidacy announcement in Waukesha. While Walker may be a Wauwatosa resident and was Milwaukee County executive before being elected governor, his political base – and the biggest reason he is a viable presidential contender – is the Milwaukee suburbs. Waukesha is the unofficial capital of the suburbs and the heart of Walker Country.

In all three of Walker’s winning elections for governor, he received staggering margins in the crescent moon region that wraps around Milwaukee County. Walker drew more than 70 percent of the vote in Washington, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Walworth counties combined and ran very well in the western parts of Racine and Kenosha counties. To the north, he amassed huge totals in Dodge County and southern Sheboygan County. Walker’s numbers in this extended Milwaukee metro area top anything any Republican had ever been able to do.

When the Wisconsin GOP revolution began in the 2010 election that swept in Walker, a GOP Legislature and U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, it was not only the huge percentages in Washington, Waukesha and Ozaukee that put Walker into the lead but also an extremely high voter turnout. The 2012 recall was even more profound. The huge anti-Walker vote in Dane County was mathematically negated by the powerful backing Walker got in our region. He got similar numbers and support in his 2014 re-election.

The point of the above geography and history lesson is to explain why Walker is a legitimate presidential threat. The American Republican voter base has gotten much more conservative in the last 15 years. This is especially true in our area. Virtually every new Republican member of the Legislature from southeast Wisconsin is an arch-conservative. Names like Kapenga, Kooyenga, Craig, Rodriguez, Hutton, Allen, Neylon, Stroebel and a few others are from the right wing of the right wing. These conservative reformers all won GOP primary elections by running on conservative credentials. The voters that are moving to the right are the same ones that have staunchly backed Walker.

Walker generated this intense loyalty by refusing to back down to the obnoxious and over-the-top bullying from the unions, media and the left during the Act 10 wars. Conservative voters have watched Republican politicians cave into this pressure forever. Walker didn’t budge. The Democrat senators bugged out of the state, recall petitions were circulated, mobs took over the Capitol, ugly threats were made and Walker stood tall.

This is why southeastern Wisconsin conservatives have had Scott Walker’s back.

Walker took a swing state with liberal tendencies and moved it sharply to the right. This is why he is in the top tier of GOP presidential candidates.

Walker talks the talk they all talk. What separates him is that, in Wisconsin, he walked the walk. Republican voters are furious with the socialism Barack Obama has inflicted on the nation and think the GOP establishment has acquiesced too much. Walker’s Wisconsin Revolution gives these voters hope the next Republican president will undo this damage. These voters are much more conservative than they were 20 years ago. The mainstream media misses this point.

What point? The people who vote in Republican primaries are the same type of people who live in the local suburbs and the outer region. They are more conservative politically than they were before, are more active, are less willing to compromise principles and are yearning for a leader who will not back down. Walker may or may not be that candidate, but he is in the game because many people admire what he did in Wisconsin.

So, when Scott Walker stands at the podium next week in Waukesha and says he wants to be president of the United States, he will be speaking from the heart of the region whose voters stood by him during the five years he’s been under siege.

Walker has stumbled in Wisconsin the last six months. His state budget was ignored by the Legislature. His killing of the Kenosha casino was unbelievably stupid. The recent open records fiasco indicates Walker didn’t have his finger on the pulse of the very voter base he has long impressed.

In fact, I’ve commented that the only state where Walker isn’t popular among Republicans right now is Wisconsin. But none of these recent skirmishes are part of why he is on the presidential map. He’s there because of his brilliant first term and the fact that the voter base of southeast Wisconsin outside the Milwaukee city limits has given him undying support. Walker’s Wisconsin governorship is ending. He’s either going to be the president or will resign next year as governor. But the perfect place for him to launch the next chapter of his amazing career is the real center of his impassioned support. The Expo Center may be in Waukesha but is really the regional capital of southeast Wisconsin Republicanville.

for those out of state, I’ll put Governor Walker’s amazing achievements in perspective:

“...[Walker] received staggering margins in the crescent moon region that wraps around Milwaukee County.”

Versus the Hammer and Sickle flag that flies above Milwaukee County!

Belling is one of the locals I can’t monitor. He’s on a station which is local Milwaukee and I think Rush gets bunped for Brewers bazeball. There is a sentiment here that wishes Walker go for a 3rd term instead of POTUS. But sounds like Belling had his ox gored.

This state is saturated with casinos. If this one failed the state would be on the hook. During his re-election effort besides that infamous John Doe pogrom against conservatives led by Milwaukee national socialists. The one world no borders socialists in Madistan which control the party by resolution voted against iron mining in job deprived northern Wisconsin and suddenly the EPA fixes it so it won’t happen. The Socialists then parade the poor job picture in Wisconsin.

For me, it’s too early to pick a winner. So I’m refraining from jumping on any bandwagon but hope it’s not Jeb,Lindsey,or Rand. And am more interested in exposing both brands of socialism and depressing turnout .

Minor correction, the Socialists try to portray the job picture as poor.

In fact, the current unemployment rate is 4.6 percent which is at or near full employment. Our labor participation rate is 5+ points over the national average. Wages are growing because labor is in reality growing short.
