A law enforcement official says the gun used in the seemingly random slaying of a woman on a San Francisco pier belonged to a federal agent.
The official who was briefed on the matter says a police check of the weapons serial number shows it belonged to a federal agent. The official was not authorized to speak publicly about the case and spoke on condition of anonymity.

I have been employed as a technician or support staffer by three federal agencies other than my military service. Additionally, I have a family member who was a career US Secret Service Agent serving from Eisenhower to Gerald Ford.
It has been my observation that the fed *alphabet agencies* [FBI,BATF,USSS, etc,etc] get MUCH more bent out of shape about the loss of credentials/ID and/or badge than firearms, and likewise, radios and computer equipment get more careful handling than things that go bang.
Any bets on this being Fast & Furious part2 ????
