Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;
And lean not unto thine own understanding.
In all thy ways acknowledge Him,
and He shall direct thy paths.
Proverbs 3: 5-6

Holy God,
On this Independence Day weekend, we think about the faithfulness You have shown this nation from its very beginning. Though we are celebrating our countrys independence, there is heaviness in our hearts for America because we know that as a nation, we have moved away from You. Our churches have grown lukewarm and empty; and the continual effort to remove Your Name and Your teachings from our culture persists. Father God, please bind up the wounds in America. Please use all that has been intended for evil and make something good from it as only You can. Please lead us to repentance, Lord.
So often we try to be wise in our own eyes instead of trusting in You with all our hearts. So often we seek the ways of the world and the counsel of the mighty instead of the wisdom that is from everlasting to everlasting.
Father, surely You are the answer to our struggling and divided nation. We struggle because we have allowed the wisdom of this world to replace the true wisdom that can only come from You. How foolish we are to think that Your ways are outdated and Your truths no longer apply to our daily lives. Forgive us, Lord. We know that neither You nor Your truths ever change. Help us, Father, to stand firm on Your wisdom and truth all the days of our lives.
Lord, may Your wisdom dwell with our military men and women, that their ways may be full of pleasantness and their paths filled with peace. So often those who return home struggle to be set free from the trauma and strife that was so much a part of their lives in the service. Lord, separate them from all bondage and strife and grant them the beautiful peace that can only come from You. Teach them in the way of wisdom and lead them in right paths.
Blessed are You, our immortal, invisible, always wise God. We exalt Your Name forever and ever, and we thank You for always being willing to share Your wisdom with us. Guide us, Great Jehovah, that we may honor and bless You. In the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

A Letter from the Battlefield
July 3, 2015
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
2 Timothy 4:7
For more than two decades, Andrew Carroll has been urging people not to throw away the letters written by family members or friends during a time of war. Carroll, director of the Center for American War Letters at Chapman University in California, considers them an irreplaceable link to tie families together and open a door of understanding. Younger generations are reading these letters, Carroll says, and asking questions and saying, Now I understand what you endured, what you sacrificed.
When the apostle Paul was imprisoned in Rome and knew his life would soon end, he wrote a letter to a young man whom he considered a son in the faith, Timothy. Like a soldier on the battlefield, Paul opened his heart to him: The time of my departure is at hand. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing (2 Tim. 4:6-8).
When we read the letters in the Bible that the heroes of the Christian faith have left for us and grasp what they endured because of their love for Christ, we gain courage to follow their example and to stand strong for those who come after us.
Lord, give us strength for the spiritual battles we face today, knowing that You have won the ultimate victory and that we will one day live eternally with You.
Run the race with eternity in view.
:
Titus and 1 Timothy were probably written after the apostle Paul was released from house arrest in Rome (ad 61-62) and during his fourth missionary journey (ad 6263; see Acts 28:30-31). When persecution broke out under Emperor Nero, Paul was imprisoned again. During this second Roman imprisonment, Paul wrote 2 Timothy (ad 65-67). This time he knew his death was imminent (4:6-7). Paul warns that a time is coming when Christians will not endure sound doctrine and will turn away from the truth (vv. 3-7). To counter false teaching, Timothy is to preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching (v. 2).

Father,
We pray for every pastor, priest, preacher, spiritual leader asking that You open the eyes and hearts of those who have lost their way and no longer teach or speak the truth of Your Holy Word. Those who claim to know you, but don't, reveal yourself to them. Remind them they will be held accountable the day of judgment above all others if they lead people astray. Soften there hearts for You and pursue them relentlessly.
Those spiritual leaders under attack standing for You and Your Word, strengthen and give them peace and joy in the knowledge that they will one day hear, “well done good and faithful servant”.
Bring a revival to this nation. Your will be done to bring this nation back to You.
Amen.
