Former CNN journalist kills man in shootout at NW Albuquerque motel
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | July 1, 2015 | Robert Browman and Nicole Perez

Posted on 07/01/2015 1:42:23 PM PDT by CedarDave

A former CNN reporter shot and killed a man who allegedly tried to rob him and his wife at a northwest Albuquerque motel room Tuesday night.

Chuck de Caro, who is married to former CNN Headline News anchor Lynne Russell, has worked as an investigative reporter for CNN and other news organizations. The couple was staying at the Motel 6 at 6015 Iliff NW while on their way to California.

According to Russell’s account, de Caro was struck three times in the firefight before shooting and killing the offender, who hasn’t been identified by police.

De Caro was taken to University of New Mexico Hospital and is expected to survive. He will be there about a week, Russell said.

The couple tried to talk to the suspect in an attempt to calm him down ... The couple, who both have concealed weapons permits, had two guns in the bedside table. Russell ... was able to flip one of them into her purse and handed the purse to de Caro.

The suspect got upset that de Caro wasn’t giving him [a] briefcase and opened fire.

De Caro fired six rounds, and when he was finished the suspect was still firing. ... De Caro was hit three times — in the abdomen, the leg and lower abdomen.

Russell said she had to dive behind a piece of furniture to avoid being hit. She said the suspect was a thin, black man wearing green and white.

She said he was agitated and seemed desperate. “I knew he wouldn’t mind shooting us,” Russell said.

She was a sherriffs deputy for the Atlanta area and also a licensed private investigator. In that line of business you no doubt become a conservative over time.

My bad. I knew I was wrong as soon as I hit "Post". I was focused on Lynne Russell because I met her in Kansas City many years ago. Of course, she's not hard to fixate on.

My apologies.

I once had to stay at a hotel in downtown Albuquerque because everything for 30 miles around was booked. It seemed like it was a former Holiday Inn but under some other name. Cheap enough (too cheap). But I saw a police bust across the street at some bar. I ended up piling furniture in front of the door just in case of a raid in the middle of the night. Seriously.

.35 Cal is an awesome round — out of a Marlin 336c lever action. Similar ballistics to a 30-30.

I wonder how CNN will broadcast the news on this killing seeing that their former employee kept his cool and showed bravery defending his wife.

I bet the CNN powers-that-be are huddled in agonizing deep doo-doo right now trying to figure out how to approach and report this news....should it be done from the perspective of an innocent white guy killing a thieving black perp?......or should it be reported from the perspective of a poor, unarmed black guy robbing an evil, gun totin' capitalist white guy whom obviously had won life's lottery to be able to stay in a motel at all rather than having to sleep under a viaduct.

I presume, given various bad choices of how to report the incident and still not betray their liberal principles, the lefties at CNN won't mention it at all, or maybe just in passing.

“Story says both licensed (but not necessary in NM; you may have a gun in your home or your vehicle without a permit). “

The motel room should have legally qualified as “home” or place of residence for the shoot ie: clean shoot.

Thanks for NOT being an ass.

The guy Drew and fired from his wife’s purse while under the gun, and won.

Calls for “more range time” in this circumstance isn’t Monday morning quarterbacking, it’s mispronouncing “debris!”

Albuquerque is getting as bad as some eastern cities with at least several shootings per week.

Yes, true. I don't think I've seen the number of shootings and shooting deaths so high since I've been here (2005). It's so you can't even turn on the news any given day and not see a murder or shooting.

I wonder how many states they drove through that would have locked them up for having the weapons in their possession.

Not many along I-40. At least, not until you get to Californicatia.

Am I the only one who is wondering why these two would be staying in a Motel 6, given the money they have made with CNN? Maybe this was a drug deal gone bad.

What has happened to the world, Leni? TV networks used to have "news" divisions. Now they only have politically correct, Leftist leaning propaganda divisions. I can hardly stand to turn the "news" on anymore. As I've gotten older and more "seasoned" I can see right through their PC garbage as soon as the anchor opens their mouth. I've switched to older movie watching because back in the day, Hollywood was not in the PC business back then.

Sad days in America continue.

I'm a classic movie buff, also....and find myself watching them more and more....even though my TV viewing time is sometimes limited. House & Garden TV and the true crime, forensic-science type programs round out my evenings now supplanting what used to be the Fox four-hour nightly line-up.

Juan Williams, Fox's trained commie seal........ Whoraldo, Fox's low-tier diversity-token........ the fast-talking, over-talking, non-stop propagandist Richard Fowler........plus the toothsome, subversive Julie Roginsky and others cheap misfits from the fraying fringes of subversive American society have all but driven me from Fox...and I've found a less-agitating world of entertainment along with an exhilarating sense of freedom from leftist Fox pundits who are tinged with liberal mental disease.....and who are rife with bullying, shouting, interruptions, cringe-worthy big mouths and liberal spin offending in the worst ways my ears, my morals, my culture and my country.

I may be a lot of things, but one thing I'm not....a masochist.

(...pardon my "stream of consciousness", I could run on forever about the insults to our intelligence appearing nightly on so-called TV "news")

I agree. And now for my rant.

I am retired but work on a 30 acre farm in Florida helping my wife to raise beef cattle. No time schedule, no boss, no clock to punch, so I used to come in from doing chores to turn on The Five and watch the first of five straight "news" and current event shows on Fox News Channel. I used to flip the channels occasionally to see what they were saying on CNN or MSNBC but not anymore, once I saw how extremely biased to the Left they have gotten.

But lately, just in the last six months or so, things have gotten so bad with the events in this country changing at such a rapid pace in the wrong direction and disasters occurring overseas at a deteriorating rate, that I have tired of even watching Fox News hardly at all. Bret Baier's program is pretty much straight news so I will catch parts of it but otherwise, I can't stand Juan "Befuddled" Williams, that Jerk Whoreraldo, or the arrogant, toothy b*tch Julie Roginsky. Not hard to see why she leans Left. She was born in Moscow, USSR. Even some of the Fox News personalities like Eric Bolling, Greta The Scientologist and Full-Of-Himself O'Reilly, grate on my nerves sometimes now. By switching to channels that carry non-political programming, my life seems much more settled and calm. For years I have deliberately eliminated all liberals from my personal life for the same reason. They were the main irritant to my well-being. Now I look at the political cable TV programs the same way. They are a disturbing and irritating way to spend my evenings.

Old movies, some of the Travel and History channel programming if they would stay away from inserting the global warming crap into it. But the constant barrage of bad political news and current events, watching this commie in the White House constantly denigrate our country and dividing people between races, and pushing us further to the Left, unilaterally taking away our freedoms and liberties, disgusted with Congress doing his bidding and the Supreme Court acting like lawmakers instead of ruling on the constitutionality of existing laws. All of it has finally broken me of the habit of the TV cable news programming in the evenings. Reading a good book in bed before turning out the light, is now much more entertaining than the constant drivel coming out of cable news TV.

Just a passing observation on my part. I really have never heard of these two individuals.

Yours is a very well-reasoned comment. Another, perhaps picky, but grating-to-the-nerves detail and pet peeve of mine, is the totally irritating, shrill, metallic voices that are rife all day long with the Fox news-babes, not to mention the rapid-fire delivery of words by some of them at a speed-rate which is a thousand times faster than the normal speaking voices of most Americans....and so fast, the brain of the listener can barely absorb and assimilate the content.

I read on the internet that the ridiculously-squeaky, almost unintelligible Elisabeth Hasselbeck has admitted she has an "annoying voice", a fact with which I not only agree, but she could have added Dana Perino the Shreek onto the list along with the intense, bullying, overbearing, over-talking, loud voice of non-stop talker, Won Williams.

Not to mention that socialist, robotic, serial-talker, Richard Fowler.....and that bizarre, wildly-ranting, totally-bonkers muslim imam or whatever he is...don't get me started, there's more on my list, LOL.

My relief from the Fox cacaphony and its parade of freaks and cartoon characters is flipping over to some good non-news TV alternatives, a good book, and my trusty New York Times Sunday crossword puzzles in my comfy bed before turning off the lights. Peace and quiet at last.

(....and freeping, of course, is more soothing to the nerves...since FR gives me all the news and analysis I need to know without incessantly grating my ear drums).
