In Japan, Christianity itself was illegal until recently; it's still frowned upon. (My college minister spent time in Japan; he could go on all day about that...)

Lots of Japanese media (manga, anime, tokusatsu etc.) feature Christian characters too; even though they’re a minority, they are frequently showcased.
