OFFICIAL STATEMENT — 26 JUNE 2015: Supreme Court Decision Will Not Alter Doctrine on Marriage
mormonnewsroom.org ^ | 26 June 2015 | LDS Church Statement

SALT LAKE CITY — The Church issued the following statement Friday:

"The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints acknowledges that following today's ruling by the Supreme Court, same-sex marriages are now legal in the United States. The Court's decision does not alter the Lord's doctrine that marriage is a union between a man and a woman ordained by God. While showing respect for those who think differently, the Church will continue to teach and promote marriage between a man and a woman as a central part of our doctrine and practice."

The Church has outlined its doctrine and position on marriage in the document The Divine Institution of Marriage.

More details at link. A good Catholic archbishop has made a clear statement, although it remains to be seen if the Pope will back him up. Now the Mormons have dared to tweak Caesar's nose after Caesar has spoken.

Let's hope some of the other denominations weigh in soon.

As much as I despise this cult. I am very pleased with their strong statement on this issue, and I have no doubt they will act according to their statement.

Does the SCOTUS ruling now make it illegal for states to regulate marriage? Meaning no more licenses

the Lord's doctrine that marriage is a union between a man and a woman ordained by God.

Fun with modifiers! This phrasing implies that the woman (and possibly the man) is a priest or in some other way "ordained."

Do they mean "... marriage is a union, ordained by God, between a man and a woman."?

Churches everywhere have a choice to make. Comply with honoring homosexual marriage or lose tax exempt status and worse.

I’ve said this for years. Christians may have problems w/the Mormon religion. And, this Christian does. However, Mormon’s do not waiver nor compromise w/their beliefs or convictions. I wish many of us Christians would do the same. Christians constitute the largest voting block in America. If we voted in unity there would be practically no law that would pass nor politician elected that would violate our faith. Yet, how many of us so called Christians voted for Obama the second time.

“Does the SCOTUS ruling now make it illegal for states to regulate marriage? Meaning no more licenses”

That’s a good point. If the Federal government has taken over what constitutes a marriage, the Federal government should be the ones issuing the marriage licenses. Why should the states have to do it, since the states don’t count.

Queers are beating a path to Utah as we speak to demand a church “marry” them, and if not, they will sue - and with this ruling they will win.

Does the SCOTUS ruling now make it illegal for states to regulate marriage? Meaning no more licenses[?]

Can the state now license ANY thing?

Per the tortured reasoning of the SCOTUS majority using Due Process arguments, and the reasoning of other courts using Equal Protection arguments, these thinkers have abolished the power of states to create ANY form of licensing, as ALL licensing declares certain parties are granted "liberty" to do such-and-such a thing, while other parties are not granted "liberty" to do that same thing.

Consider bass fishing licenses. Those who prefer to fish for bass outside of season, or to fish for trout during bass season, are denied the Due Process right and/or the Equal Protection right to fish for their desired species at their desired time of choice.

Consider brain surgeon licenses. Those who desire to perform brain surgey but do not meet the state-imposed requirements to meet certain qualifications are denied their Due Process and Equal Protection rights to perform brain surgery.

I'm not being flippant. It seems to me that this is exactly what the court has ruled.

There is no right to ‘marriage’ in the constitution. States made that up later. I predict this destroys the State’s from doing anything involving marriage.

I am very pleased with their strong statement on this issue, and I have no doubt they will act according to their statement.

They'll stick to it. That's why they're called "Latter Day Saints." They know what time it is. As a church, they're well prepared for what is coming.
At this point, other churches should be following their lead. They're miles ahead of the rest.
The Amish have it exactly right. They're untouchable. They took every word in the the Bible literally and never wavered.

While showing respect for those who think differently ...

Just as long as the LDS has a clear understanding that no such "respect" -- much less tolerance "for those who think differently" -- will be shown by the Left. They WON, doncha know? --- Nothing else matters and all bets are off ...
