... I hate Gone With the Wind. I hate everything about it. I hate its portrayal of the Civil War. I hate its portrayal of Southern aristocrats. I hate its popularity. I hate that it's become an iconic movie. I hate that it was ever made in the first place.
Gone With the Wind is Birth of a Nation with less horses. The movie, and its position among the American cinematic pantheon, has done more to further the ahistoric Lost Cause bull**** than any other single production. Because that's the fundamental problem with the Lost Cause narrative: it's not true.
Let's go one-by-one through some typical Lost Cause-tinged revisionist talking points:
The Civil War was about economics, not slavery!
The Civil War was about states' rights, not slavery!
They didnt secede to protect slavery and then initiate war with the United States.
If it it was about slavery, how come they weren't invaded and in ruins?
Because they didn't secede to protect slavery and initiate war with the United States.
Why was their slavery acceptable, but those other states not?
Why was any slavery acceptable?
A very common error by dopes who can’t even speak their own language.
This includes more than a few talking heads on the nightly news.
Lincoln’s letter to Horace Greeley (the media)
regarding that topic:

A lot of Freepers sound just like the author of this screed.
Wow. The way you phrase the question, it almost sounds like secession was the issue, rather than slavery.
Interesting theory you have there!
Why was any slavery acceptable?
You'll have to ask Lincoln. I wasn't making decisions for the Union Army back in 1861.
Not really but OK if that makes you feeeeeeeeeeeel better.
(How’s that list coming?)
Is there anything about the posted article you disagree with? It sounds like one of you Freeper Lincoln cultists. I.E. it sounds crazy and hateful.
Well, from the south's view it WAS all about slavery, as they made clear over and over and over. But from the United States' view, it was about preserving the union, as they made clear over and over. You might start with Lincoln's First Inaugural.
Do you a problem with Mr Prices piece? Where are your differences of opinion?
I don’t hate GWTW ;’)
Rhett: "hello Scarlett
Scarlett: "hello Rhett"
(BOOM)
Rhett: "good grief, what an awful war."
Sure. "Gone With the WInd" bores me, but I don't hate it.
Fiddle dee dee!
I can’t think about that right now. If I do, I’ll go crazy. I’ll think about that tomorrow.
Hindsight is 2020. We’ve been in Reconstruction Redux; albeit an incremental one, since LBJ- long before 0bama. It was then, & it is still driven by communism (the Abolitionists were fans of Karl Marx).
We’re almost there. (Look at Detroit, Oakland, Camden, & Baltimore) 0bama & the BGI are trying to drive White people to a reaction so that he can declare martial law (which is exactly what Reconstruction was). I can see America falling before the end of his term- & even before the 2016 election. (I told y’all something bad would happen if we kept fooling around & didn’t impeach them.)
I'd be interested in seeing where any Abolitionist acknowledged ever having heard of Karl Marx.
Why did you post this crap?
Ok now this liberal has done crossed the line!
Google is your friend, Bubba. (”abolitionists, Karl Marx”) So is archive.org (That’s where the truth is. Before it became propagandized.)
Betcha didn’t know that feminism (”women’s suffrage”) & “free love” are also rooted in abolitionism. Don’t quote me, because I’ve read a lot & it’s been more than a year, but I believe it was Harriet Beecher Stowe’s bunch (I want to say her brother?) were into bisexuality, too.
These people were professional agitators.
Not kidding. Look this stuff up. It’ll blow you away. Look up John Brown, while you’re at it. Now, there’s a fine specimen of a “moral, upright” man. (Not)
Why does the media encourage racism?
