The manhunt for the escapee police say killed New Orleans Police Officer Daryle Holloway, ended when a rookie officer spotted Travis Boys as he boarded a bus in the Lower 9th Ward, his broken handcuffs still on his wrists.
Police stopped the bus and Boys, 33, sprinted into the neighborhood. A swarm of officers caught him near Reynes Street and St. Claude Avenue Sunday (June 21), NOPD Superintendent Michael Harrison said.
"We always knew we would catch him," he said at a press conference outside police headquarters, flanked by U.S. Marshals, state police and Mayor Mitch Landrieu. "It was just a matter of time."
Boys' arrest ended a day-long, citywide manhunt after police found a fatally injured Holloway near the corner of Elysian Fields and North Claiborne avenues Saturday morning. He had been transporting Boys to central lockup on an aggravated battery charge.
Harrison said it's unclear how Boys got a hold of the gun he allegedly used to kill Holloway. Holloway's sidearm was still in its holster when police found him, but they also recovered .40-caliber Smith & Wesson from inside his police vehicle.

He will get the death penalty.
Not to bad. a little over 24 hours after the crime and he is caught.
“Holloway’s sidearm was still in its holster when police found him, but they also recovered .40-caliber Smith & Wesson from inside his police vehicle.”
So the officer inadvertently caused his own death. That’s so sad.
No
Police also recovered a .38-caliber handgun, the same caliber as the weapon that Boys had used in an assault that led to his first arrest Saturday.
Boys had been frisked when he was arrested and when he was taken to Central Lockup, Harrison said.
According to police, Boys was in the back seat of Holloway's car when he managed to slip his cuffed hands from behind his back, produce a hidden gun, shoot the NOPD officer and flee, eventually stealing a car that he later crashed.
That was fast. Good on them.
Why is Bell still sucking air???
What! No street justice? The cops let this guy make it to jail alive? That’s surprising.
It’s Boys.
I used to live a few blocks from there. Relations with blacks were always contentious. I see that nothing has changed.
Leni
it should hve been SOS for Travis Boys.
And Angola.
Well he was on a bus on a Sunday morning so there were probably a lot of witnesses.
Does he look like one of Obama’s sons?
Of course!
When you look at that location in Google Maps, you see the usual sign visible from above: lots of city blocks with houses very close together, except for large areas of just grass lawns.
The lawns are houses that were burned to the ground and never rebuilt.
Burned to the ground? I don’t know where you get your information but it’s not very accurate. This isn’t Detroit.
So what explains the big empty lots between close-together little houses?
Something called Katrina that occurred almost 10 years ago.
Ah. Good point. Sorry I generalized in ignorance.
My apologies to you, and to New Orleans.
