The House on Thursday took the first step toward resuscitating the White Houses trade agenda by passing legislation granting President Obama fast-track authority.
The bill now goes to the Senate, where the White House and GOP leaders are seeking to strike a deal with pro-trade Democrats.
The House vote was 218-208, with 28 Democrats voting for it.
This is the second time in a week the House has voted to approve the controversial fast-track bill. On Friday, the House voted 219-211 in favor of fast-track, which would make it easier for Obama to complete a sweeping trans-Pacific trade deal.
In last weeks vote, the House GOP paired the fast-track bill with a measure known as Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) that gives aid to workers displaced by trade. Both measures needed to be approved in separate votes for the entire package to move forward.
House Democrats have historically favored TAA, but they voted against it on Friday to kill fast-track, which is deeply opposed by unions and other liberal groups.
The White House still wants both measures to reach Obamas desk, but is now advancing a different strategy that would see the two bills move separately.

WTF? Just this provision should raise major red flags. How is this trade bill good for America. F You Boner!
TPP and free trade is about taking American sovereignty and turning it over to the WTO and global corporations. An example is the recent deal where other countries can tell us we can’t label our food with country of origin labeling.
The right needs to decide if they are conservatives who demand national sovereignty and US Constitutional authority, or if they are greedy global corporatists who want our nation and sovereignty wiped off the map.
The globalists are very appreciative of the 21yo perv in SC on a known psychotic and personality altering drug suboxone who killed these innocent people and the media can talk about that and gun control instead of America being screwed.
.....”Unless it gets delayed”.....
Voting on it has been delayed for years as it is now.....I can see it being delayed another year.... not so sure better or worse to stall it or pass it. Too many unknowns at this point.
Don’t pass anything Obama negotiated. It is bound to Stink!

‘The other concerning point was the process of implementation and harmonization to international law. The speaker, Dena Espenscheid, a board member with the Coalition for a Strong America, notes at approximately the 7:01 point of the video that there is another component to which TPA applies. That component is called the Implementation Law and it is a whole other can of worms.
She describes it as a giant omnibus bill that is written by the president without congressional input that harmonizes American law after a treaty is passed with the laws and regulations of the treaty. Once the fast track passes, Obama will be able to write a massive law that rewrites American regulations and rules and laws considering sovereignty, food safety, immigration, climate change, human rights and twenty other types of domestic policy based upon the chapters of the TPP.’
Some people here try to twist reality into knots.
That's exactly what happened and happens all the time.
And they keep electing career government bureaucrats over and over and over.
ping
If in doubt we pass it right? Just like Obama care.
Secrecy and non transparency is a vile poison and catalyst for corruption and destruction of democracy, just like divide and conquer.
Every step of the way in legislation needs to be transparent to every American, and not just the home stretch where the beneficiaries who have paid off our pols get to screw us.
Our pols put surveillance cameras on citizens when it is cameras on them and their deals that are needed.
We will.
And the career bureaucrat supporters will come unhinged.
BTW, that’s exactly what Trump stated in his speech.
“America you’re getting robbed and screwed by the GOP and Dems and everyone else in D.C.”
It’s why they recoiled listening to his speech.
The GOP just screwed America and made its sovereignty and Constitution subservient to their $$$$ and benefactors.
My tagline here for a long time was be conservative not corporatist. The GOP is a hired hand treasonous corporate POS. Unfortunately for America the opposition D Party is there to take our guns and import illegals and make more dependent so we have no choice.
Both Parties are treasonous and need thrown out.
The last thing I’d ever vote for is another career government bureaucrat regardless of party.
I’d rather juggle chainsaws.
I hold them all in utter contempt. From the local levels to the highest levels.
I’m proud of my rep, Andy Harris. He voted “no” today.
Well part of the problem has been Obama waited to piggy back these two ...TPA has been out there for awhile dangling....but then likely exactly what Obama planned...just create the confusion we now see.
I thought TPP was an “AGREEMENT” Not a “TREATY”?
Because it’s interesting and entertaining. Kind of like football. The difference being that not even the most diehard Steelers fan really believes that the future of the nation rides on whether their team makes it to the superbowl.
And of course there is always the opportunity to find and connect with fellow nonvoters, and sway others to nonvoting conservatism.
As for your graphic, if you wish to believe that your one vote in one hundred million cast for one of two carefully screened uniparty candidates matters, then please do show up.
Well, this is the GOP that everyone elected. A bunch of do-nothing, lazy, good for nothings. They might as well just all call themselves dimocrats.
