Twin Cities archbishop, deputy resign in wake of abuse cover-up allegations

The archbishop of the Twin Cities and a deputy bishop have resigned after prosecutors charged the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis with having failed to protect children from unspeakable harm from a pedophile priest. The Vatican said Monday that Pope Francis accepted the resignations of Archbishop John Nienstedt and Auxiliary Bishop Lee Anthony Piche. They resigned under the code of canon law that allows bishops to resign before they retire because of illness or some other "grave" reason that makes them unfit for office. Earlier this month, Ramsey County prosecutors charged the archdiocese as a corporation with having "turned a blind eye" to repeated reports of inappropriate behavior by a priest who was later convicted of molesting two boys. No individual was named in the indictment.

Sexual abuse is at the heart of every false religion because every false religion is satanic.

I understand this Archbishop is a real hero of the conservative wing of the Latin Church, a man who could be counted on to uphold the Burkian view of Latin Church teachings. Could this be true, ebb tide?

I'm a bit shocked that they would resign over what would be no more than $18K in fines for misdemeanor offenses:

Six charges have been filed, all of which are gross misdemeanors. They include three counts of Contributing to Need for Protection or Services and three counts of Contributing to Status as Juvenile Petty Offender or Delinquency. Because the charges are against a corporation rather than individuals, Choi said no one is looking at jail time; if convicted, the archdiocese faces up to $3,000 in fines on each charge.

No individuals of any religion are free from the work of satan. It is ludicrous to blame an entire religion or God for the actions of a few.

What if we were talking about Protestants?

The same applies of course...or are you suggesting that Protestants are free from temptation? I know I am one Protestant who has not been perfect.

The issue with Nienstedt is that he got actively involved in the civil sodomite “marriage” debate in Minnesota several years ago... He’d already angered many parishioners after trying to right the ship following the horrid leftist reign of his two predecessors, Roach and Flynn. When he published a DVD on traditional Church teaching regarding marriage to his flock in the months preceding a referendum on marriage, that sent a number of them around the bend.

To fully appreciate the situation, you’d have to know exactly how bad the situation was in the Archdiocese of St Paul before his arrival.

Now I’m not saying he is totally innocent. But I would wager it is in the category of not taking it seriously enough (negligence) rather than actual involvement in wrongdoing.

ebb tide wouldn’t know a “real hero of the conservative wing of the Latin Church, a man who could be counted on to uphold the Burkian view of Latin Church teachings” if he fell over one.

But yes, Nienstedt was a pretty good bishop. He was hounded relentlessly for standing up for traditional marriage.

Let them resign. How terrible for them.

I want them and the pederast priests perp walked into court, then sentenced with a cellmate that will give them all the un-natural sex on the receiving end till they cant stand it. And then beat the crap out of them, and assault them again.

Nienstedt was never charged with wrong doing, and in fact was not even mentioned personally in the suit. Basically, the earlier policies had been to “treat” the offender and then declare him “cured” and safe to return to parish work, so there were some people working in parishes who should have been kicked out rather than sent for that phony “therapy” that was in vogue during the 70s, 80s and even early 90s. This policy was followed not only in the Church, but in educational and other secular institutions, by the way.

Nienstedt was bitterly opposed by the chancery hacks (including lay people) he had inherited from the gay-friendly, raving liberal Harry Flynn, and I think a lot of this was probably a set-up. In other words, I’m not sure he was given timely information about the particular case or anything that would have led him to suspect that there was a problem - until it was too late. Harry Flynn apparently routinely ignored these things and shuffled them out of sight, and the chancery office was complicit in this. But Nienstedt was unfortunately the one who had to deal with it and, ironically enough, I think it was his efforts to tighten things up and also to break up the homosexual coterie that led to what I see as a successful plot against him.

>>Nienstedt was never charged with wrong doing

He has been repeatedly investigated, not sure if he was ever charged or not.

Regardless, as I alluded above, this is a longstanding tar and feathering by the lavender mafia. One thing to bear in mind is that while you rightfully lambast Flynn, his predecessor, Roach, was almost, if not completely, as bad.

Not to sound difficult here, but isn't everything within the archdiocese essentially owned by, or fall under the authority of the archbishop (i.e. via "corporation in sole" or some such legal designation)?
