An outraged mom is pleading with her sons Brooklyn high school: Please educate my child!
Annette Renaud, PTA president at the Secondary School for Journalism in Park Slope, is furious that her son got grades of 85 to 95 on his class work but failed Regents exams in the same subjects.
He wasnt educated, she said. He cant compete with students at Millennium, Brooklyn Tech or Stuyvesant. Its a joke.
She says conditions are bad at the school, with one teacher allegedly selling jewelry instead of holding lessons and another frying doughnuts and leaving to do his laundry.
Just 17 percent of last years graduates at the 267-student school were deemed college-ready.
Last month, Renaud sent a petition signed by 24 students to Schools Chancellor Carmen Fariña alleging that Earth-science teacher Joy Finerson-Adu had failed to conduct most of the state-required 1,200 minutes of hands-on labs.
She does other things, like sell jewelry in the class, but no instruction has taken place, it reads.
In April, Finerson-Adu allegedly peddled bling on school time, while parent coordinator Susan Stein sold Aerosoles footwear at a shoe party for staff.
They werent fund-raisers, but for personal profit, Renaud said.
Principal Eileen Coppola has offered to let Finerson-Adus students retake the class if they fail the Regents this month.

The dirty little secret is that parents are their children’s first and primary teachers.
Keep voting democrat NYC and stay on the plantation!
And don’t cry when the public union goons fail to educate your children, oppose school choice, oppose charter schools and walk away with insane spiked pensions...
It was all for the children!
How silly.
Self esteem...that's what's important.Give a kid,even at 15,a gold star for effort when he/he says that 2+2=5.
Get YOUR children out of the government indoctrination centers - NOW!!
Eventually minorities will come to realize why urban liberals get to “choose” good private schools for their kids and why minority kids are herded into dysfunctional unionized public schools. The only “choice” minorities get is the option to kill their fetuses. They may also ask liberals why they situate almost all their abortion mills in minority neighborhoods.
This isn’t an NYC problem; my children in NJ are learning more outside of school than in school, where teachers inflate grades with goofy things like bringing in cans for a food drive and such. Every parent thinks their child is a B+/A student, but when you deal with the students it becomes obvious that the social promotion policies which in the past had been used to give empty diplomas/degrees to urban black students are in full force everywhere else now.
The only thing more meaningless than promises from Democrats are public school grades.
Only an imbecile would expect their kid to get an education at a NYC Public Skool.

You are correct.
ANYWHERE where democrats and public union goons have power will have this same problem...
This ping list is for the other articles of interest to homeschoolers about education and public school. This can occasionally be a fairly high volume list. Articles pinged to the Another Reason to Homeschool List will be given the keyword of ARTH. (If I remember. If I forget, please feel free to add it yourself)
The main Homeschool Ping List handles the homeschool-specific articles. I hold both the Homeschool Ping List and the Another Reason to Homeschool Ping list. Please freepmail me to let me know if you would like to be added to or removed from either list, or both.
The grade inflation nonsense was a key part of why teachers have so strongly opposed Common Core/PARCC testing; it is exposing the BS they’ve foisted on taxpayers for decades. You would weep if you spoke to a young public school teacher today, and realize why students aren’t learning anything; these teachers today are themselves devoid of any meaningful education.
Unfortunately, I only see Asian parents regard the school systems with any degree of suspicion. They’ll use the public schools, but expect their children to rise to the top as serious students. At this point, if your child isn’t in advanced/”honors” levels, they have been completely written off (in the same manner as special ed students were treated for decades).
After school study clubs are common. It is during this “afterschooling” that real teaching and learning takes place. Of course, the government school takes the credit for the hard work done by the students as they teach each other.
Also, I doubt they watch much television (or play sports).
This is why masters degrees and internships are becoming the new normal to get a job interview.
If it was not for the Asian students in my district, the schools would be considered mediocre at best.
Years ago, there were fights in the hallways started by the white students because the Asians were getting good grades and winning all the prizes.
People should sue these some of the con-artists masquerading as “teachers”.
Same here; one of my children won his school’s spelling bee two years in a row, and he beat a couple of Asians that were very good. I don’t see any envy among the whites; they shortsightedly regard the Asians as nerds and the Asians for their part mostly keep to themselves.
