House Democrats rebuffed a dramatic personal appeal from President Obama on Friday, torpedoing his ambitious push to expand his trade negotiating power and, quite likely, his chance to secure a legacy-defining trade accord spanning the Pacific Ocean.

The more I read and hear about this, the more I like it.
TPA is worthless without TAA. Since TAA failed, the existence of TPA is moot.
I am too. But that’s par for the course for all these stupid bills.
“House Democrats voted to kill assistance to workers displaced by global trade, “
Yes, put them on welfare. Very nice. Thanks a lot.
I can’t believe that I am happy about Pelosi right now. I’m stunned.
I’ve been wondering (and this is tin foil, I know) if these trade bills are more about off-setting the coming debasement of the U.S. Dollar as the world reserve. Lots of “secret” stuff going on as well as overseas China is gobbling up gold and making pacts with other countries to move away from the dollar.
Good. But I thought TPA gave the executive the authority to negotiate trade deals, which he always had, but it now only allows an up or down yes or no to the deal, with no changes being allowed by the other branch.
It is now the time to dismiss JOhn Boehner as Speaker.
He has placed a stake in his own heart in his ineffectiveness to get support from his own party.
We in GOP deserve better
TPA passed?...I needed to hear that....Good enough!!!!
I may have to rethink my priority list, from best to worst:
Old:
Republicans
RINO’s
Democrats
New:
Republicans
Democrats
RINO’s.
.... I believe this whole thing was an exercise in tarnishing the GOP and creating powerful optics for the Democrats to distance themselves from Obama leading into the next election. If this thing did indeed pass .... then the Dems would still have come out on top of the propaganda heap. For them this was a win win situation.
.... On the opposite side of the isle .... leading Republicans have been tarnished and the Party divided ... another win for the Democrat propaganda machine. This is not the time for Republicans to compromise and co-operate on anything at all ..... Everything that is brought forward by this administration is for last chance political purposes only to advance Democrat and Socialist agendas before the General Election.
It failed by 302 -126.
And I hear Hillary didn’t take a public stand, and that figures since it doesn’t talk to the press.
Joe, I think ya nailed it pal. All factors point to a R going into the White House in 2016...let’s make sure the prez will be a conservative.
The Democrats will never support any trade bill because their union buddies will give them hell about it. I doubt the issues that concerned all of us here about the agreement, the loss of sovereignty and the secretive details of it, even entered their minds. Don’t worry if it concerns you that we’re on the same side with the left on this. They’ll do plenty of other nefarious things down the road.
Somebody find Cruz and Walker a blue smock. They might need to be put on suicide-watch after their Transnational Progressivist Plan to enslave the world failed.
It appears it has failed. Since TPA hasn’t specifically been voted on, it can be snuck under the gun. See below about the order of voting planned in the House.
From yesterday’s article:
· Question 1 - TAA. If this vote fails, no further action will be taken on the remaining trade motions. If this vote passes, the House will proceed to:
· Question 2 - TPA. If this vote fails, no further action will be taken on the remaining trade motion. If this vote passes, the House will proceed to:
· Question 3 - Motion to concur on the customs bill with a House amendment
so this is what it feels like to be cheering for Pelosi and booing Cruz. Weird.
Just 90, but he keeps repeating!
A trade bill too far.
The problem isn’t that America is afraid of trade, it’s Obama’s demonstrated anti-America track record that we fear.
.....”I find myself agreeing with the dims on this....although for entirely different reasons”....
That was their plan...it worked.
