House Rejects Trade Bill, Rebuffing Obama’s Dramatic Appeal
New York Times ^ | June 12, 2015 | Jonathan Weissman

Posted on 06/12/2015 10:52:45 AM PDT by nwrep

House Democrats rebuffed a dramatic personal appeal from President Obama on Friday, torpedoing his ambitious push to expand his trade negotiating power — and, quite likely, his chance to secure a legacy-defining trade accord spanning the Pacific Ocean.

I think Cruz is a good man generally speaking. There is a lot to like about him. I think he is wrong on this issue.

See. You have a problem seeing the issue at hand.

The fact that “The Majority” has recognized Cruz’s betrayal does not then require us to pick the person we will vote for 17 months from now.

No other choice negates the fact that Cruz betrayed what he told us his principles were and that he voted to surrender several powers from Congress and to the President. And then compounded the problem by having the audacity to tell us he didn’t do exactly what he did.

Deal with it. We are not choosing our nominee today. MANY of us simply erased Cruz from our list of possibilities as is our right.

No mention of a trade bill on his website. Gee, I wonder why?

...House Speaker John A. Boehner (R-Ohio) has decided to give Obama the weekend...

I'm having trouble recognizing which party is which. The "Cryer-of-the-House" is a huge disappointment! Should have been run from the Cryership early on!

I just want to say thank you, Lucky.

Such a sane, rational post.

Yes, Cruz has squandered his base. His support for H1B already was dragging him down. His support for ObamaTrade, given that it was reported to have immigration enhancements in it, is what caught my attention. He’s made a huge miscalculation on his H1B/legal immigration position. It will be very hard to regain the momentum now. At this point I don’t think a mea culpa will turn it around. He should be looking toward his next senatorial race.

That’s my guess, too. I’m in shock.

Glad they rejected it for whatever reason, but I’m in shock.

We need a reset button.

We need transparency - real transparency, not the obfuscation practiced by the 0vomit administration. There should be NO secret legislation unless it is directly related to national security.

We need all the laws that apply to us to also apply to the lawmakers. No special health care. No special parking spaces. No special travel perks. No special loans and financial deals. No insider trading.

There are so many Americans who are crying out for a reset and the kind of dramatic change of course that you eloquently express. The cabal of politicians, the elites and the influence peddlers are in their own multi-trillion dollar world totally detached not only from the American people but also from realityitself. They just don’t care. Something has got to give.

Cruz is a tested Conservative Warrior too. West is good, but not perfect either.

I suspect that at the drop of a hat, people on here would freak out if he did something wrong.

I stand with Cruz.

LOL...really, he has squandered his base? Tell me then...WHO will this BASE turn too in his absence?

The problem you have, other than answering the question above, is his record. You can’t dispute it (you might disagree with TPA, but he has been the most solid warrior to date).

the other problem, his money, his ground game, etc.

I am not worried.

I’d rather West run for Rubio’s seat or be the VP.

West lives in Texas. If Cruz was elected POTUS, then West would be precluded from the VP position.
