Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)96%, a 2016 Republican presidential candidate, defended his decision to vote for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) that would fast-track the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) and Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA)among other dealsduring a Thursday interview with the Hugh Hewitt radio program.
Hewitt started his line of questioning with coming out of a commercial. Lets take that opportunity, then, to go and talk about free tradeTPA, TPP, Export-Import Bank. Sen. Cruz, for claritys sake, can you quickly give us an overview on where you are on those three issues, as theres quite a lot of confusion among conservative voters as to where different people are and why on each of those three issues.
Sure, Cruz responded. There is a lot of confusion and, unfortunately, a lot of misinformation you can get on the Internet that people are confused, so lets explain what each of those three are.
Cruz, by saying that, was essentially making the exact same claimblaming the Internet for what he argues is misinformationas House Ways and Means Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)60%. Ryan made the claim on Fox News earlier on Thursday in response to Breitbart News reporting highlighted by the massively influential Drudge Report. Ryan, with whom Cruz pushed Obamatrade in a Wall Street Journal op-ed in late Aprilone thats been used by Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)40% to try to rally support for Obamatradehas been essentially discredited by various false statements hes made throughout this process.
That Cruz would use the same talking points as him is interesting and probably disappointing to many conservatives. That Boehner is using Cruz to push Obamatrade is probably even more disappointing to most conservatives... ...

Cruz just lost me!
I’ve read that obummer can do this and obummer can do that with the new agreement.
he’s doing what he wants already anyway.
I’ve done a lot of reading and I think the bill is not nearly as damning as some say it is, with all due respect.
why would Cruz suddenly reverse course on all he believes in to vote for this bill? it doesn’t make sense. he still has my vote.
People that marched their asses into a voting booth and voted for Mitt Romney, a man with no identifiable conservatism in his record can suck it up and vote for Ted Cruz, a man with a mere couple of mistakes on his resume.
Lemmings hopping off a cliff. You’ve been sold a false savior my friend.
no. don’t go. not on one issue that has many sides to its story. I was very skeptical too but have done a lot of reading and it is not the monster it is being made out to be.
He is doing the RINO rounds.
I'm betting he won't go near Mark Levin right now.
Levin would give him Hell over giving more power to Obama.
According to Sen. Sessions this is not just a little mistake Norm. And all of Cruz’s fumbles have been coming one after another.
Bottom line: NO ONE has a right to say “misinformation” or “you’re jumping to conclusions” when we’ve seen neither the information nor its logical conclusions.
I don’t want to be talked down to. I just want to read the dadgum bill.
Cruz is busy going DC bush.... No other way to hope to win the nomination.
ah, he’s still my guy.
who are you leaning towards at this point? apologies ahead of time if its none of my business :)
I don’t care if it was a little or big mistake. If you voted for the complete mistake of Abortion, illegals, crony capitalism and liberalizing the GOP with Mitt Romney, then you can vote for a man that has an overwhelming majority of good and conservatism on his record.
Period. There is no excuse.
I am so disgusted here lately, the republicans committing suicide for Obama, my own rep included. The Japanese lobbying ex-congressman for the trade agreement smacks of the worst corruption. JimRob for president and Sarah Palin for vice president, nuff said.
I’ve been a Cruz guy, have Cruz sticker on my car, on my shoppe window, on my wife’s car, and mention my enthusiasm for him on my FR profile page. But this is big and this is upsetting. Jeff Sessions is the worst public speaker in the Senate but he is sincere on this and Cruz appears too flippant. Cruz should look hard before he leaps again on this issue.
Cruz is for it. Walker is for it.
We have nobody.
If there is misinformation, the fault is with the secrecy, not the Internet.
As for Cruz, he committed to it in April and now he is stuck. I wonder if he had even read it yet. I seem to remember that he only read it around the middle or end of May. If he made a mistake he would be wise to admit it now and not later. If he thinks he has not made a mistake, he would be wise to blame the secrecy rather than everyone else. He would still lose on issue but he might not also lose in the character department.
I say that while maintaining that overall he has very good character. Everyone can be wrong. This is too important for him to mess up on it. If a flaw is showing through I would say that Cruz can sometimes decide something too soon before he has all the facts. I suppose, again, everyone can be guilty of that, but he had better correct it and correct it fast. He is smart and can figure out how to do it without too much damage to his campaign.
I trust Sessions over anyone in D.C. at this point in time.
My only problem with Cruz is that he still thinks the Constitution matters ... it does, but he thinks he can save us. It has to be Re-Instituted from bottom to top.
Me... I’m jaded, old and experienced... just hopeful.
TT
When Cruz votes for this abolish-the-borders bill, he loses me.
