Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)96%, a 2016 Republican presidential candidate, defended his decision to vote for Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) that would fast-track the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (T-TIP) and Trade in Services Agreement (TiSA)among other dealsduring a Thursday interview with the Hugh Hewitt radio program.
Hewitt started his line of questioning with coming out of a commercial. Lets take that opportunity, then, to go and talk about free tradeTPA, TPP, Export-Import Bank. Sen. Cruz, for claritys sake, can you quickly give us an overview on where you are on those three issues, as theres quite a lot of confusion among conservative voters as to where different people are and why on each of those three issues.
Sure, Cruz responded. There is a lot of confusion and, unfortunately, a lot of misinformation you can get on the Internet that people are confused, so lets explain what each of those three are.
Cruz, by saying that, was essentially making the exact same claimblaming the Internet for what he argues is misinformationas House Ways and Means Committee chairman Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI)60%. Ryan made the claim on Fox News earlier on Thursday in response to Breitbart News reporting highlighted by the massively influential Drudge Report. Ryan, with whom Cruz pushed Obamatrade in a Wall Street Journal op-ed in late Aprilone thats been used by Speaker Rep. John Boehner (R-OH)40% to try to rally support for Obamatradehas been essentially discredited by various false statements hes made throughout this process.
That Cruz would use the same talking points as him is interesting and probably disappointing to many conservatives. That Boehner is using Cruz to push Obamatrade is probably even more disappointing to most conservatives... ...

Perfect analysis and conclusion.
Thank you.
Opening up a fact-based debate should not be considered the same as fostering confusion.
We disagree on that point.
I still am unsure whether I agree with Cruz’s conclusions on TPA, BTW. I’m simply responding to what I consider FUD about his tactics in discussing it.
What is FUD?
I’d prefer Cruz be interviewed by Mark Levin, on this, rather than Hugh Hewitt.
I’d love to hear each of their stellar intellects decipher every point of this legislation...both TPA and the TPP.
Basically, creating confusion. The acronym stands for Fear, Uncertainty, and Doubt.
great point. I never blindly follow someone, and Cruz is on point on so many issues, that I hate to see him lose so many people on this one issue.
he should go head to head with Levin. You are right.
If you think any =DEMocRAT= is going to reduce the federal government, you are delusional. Never have, never will.
It does not seem to get into those GOP exonomics technocrats heads that the country is not a gentle CEO lead nation. Empowering the like of Obama with weapons and the NSA and what not is absolute folly. What part of government is evil they do not understand?
..............................
I have reached the point that anything Obama is FOR, I am AGAINST. What happened to all the promises about STOPPING Obama? We worked hard and WON the 2014 Election. For WHAT? We have a republican majority and they have VOTED WITH OBAMA on EVERY MAJOR ISSUE. I am tired of the theatrics. I am tired of the lies. I am tired of the turncoats.
Look at NAFTA. What has it done for the U.S.? It has cost us jobs, it has cost us sovereignty, it has become a burden that takes away from us and gives to our neighbors. WHAT IS TPP going to differently? SACRIFICE AMERICA even more to the NWO.
GET RID OF THE SECRECY. It is INSULTING to the American people. That alone is enough reason to be against it. Why doesn’t CRUZ postulate on that? Small traits reveal big trends.
Alarm bells and red flags go up in my head when a member of the GOP makes a Bush ahole comment like he just did. We are misinformed? But they keep the deal secret, hahaha, joke, of course we are the stupid misinformed bimbo peasants!
Just like when Bush Jr. called Texas militias vigilantes but would not name like this illegals.
I cannot stand these pieces of crap. And Obama plays the same card on everyone too.
I say lets see who votes for the agreement in a site unseen fashion. The key here question here is who is stupid enough to vote for a law that they have not read? It will be political suicide for any Republican candidate to do that.
Seems we agree on GUN issues as well.
“I have reached the point that anything Obama is FOR, I am AGAINST.”
+ 1 billion!!
“Why don’t YOU just tell us how giving Obama additional power to secure bad agreements is the right thing to do.
You think that is good because you wouldn’t critcize Ted Cruz if he laid a big wet kiss on Hillary Clinton. Ted Cruz is not the Savior. He is a flawed human being who is perfectly capable of being stupid.”
I don’t have to explain the trade bills or any other subject Cruz covers in that speech - he said it himself - that’s first hand documented by him explanation of numerous important issues. I doubt you have listened to his explanation. You seem to be uninformed and want to stay that way.
Admit it. You don’t support TPA, you just support Ted Cruz.
read post #66
You know what the wise man said,
forget words,
pay attention to action.
By voting for TPA, Cruz has revealed himself.
He is bought and paid for by his rich donors.
It did not pass! Great news for the nation.
Now we need to kill TPP. I don't see how any sane American can support that....other than the chamber of commerce and the enslavers, that is.
Wow, so sophisticated.
Yes, I understand Free Trade. What is going on today is NOT at all free trade -- it is evil crony capitalism.
I have the collecive works of Ludwig Von Mises, many of Milton Friedman, Hayek, Bastiat, Sowell, Adam Smith and many others works.
They, to a man, would be utterly appalled at our Omnipotent Government.
They would not describe any of these bills as promoting free trade.
Voting third party, writing someone in...these are the same as staying home. If you weren’t encouraging people to vote for Romney in the general, you were helping Obama.
Of course the state being blue matters. Politicians are subject to the will of the electorate. Also to the legislature the electorate elects, and to the court appointees of previous administrations. I don’t claim Mitt was any kind of great conservative leader on social issues, just that he’d be better than Obama, for whom the gay rights and abortion agendas are ideological imperatives. Yeah, Romneycare, which was stupid but constitutional at the state level. As a prez candidate he campaigned on repealing Obamacare. I don’t know if his heart was in that or not, but it doesn’t matter: if he were president right now with conservative majorities in the House and Senate, we’d be picking Obamacare apart. He wouldn’t be vetoing.
