You want us to hold faith but every single “conservative” politician over the past 6 years has screwed us MAJORLY. Nope. I supported Cruz, but he supported a MAJOR TRADE BILL that congress is being forced to sign NDA’s if they want to read it.
We will NEVER EVER know what’s in it.
What will we know? How about you tell us, then maybe I can hold faith. But at this moment, I can’t.

Cruz made his influence felt in the Senate even before he took office. He was invited to join the weekly lunch of the Senate Republican caucus on December 4, 2012, which happened to be the day the full Senate was debating the United Nations treaty on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. The treaty seemed fairly uncontroversial, but Cruz, as the tribune of the Tea Party movement, was opposed. “I was a newly elected senator who hadn’t even been sworn in yet, but I did just pass on, having just come from the campaign trail, that issues of U.S. sovereignty resonate powerfully with the American people,” Cruz told me. The issues in the treaty were broadly similar to those in the Medellín case, in that they involved the interplay between American law and international institutions.
Dick Durbin, the Illinois Democrat who is the assistant majority leader, recalled Cruz’s influence on Republicans at that lunch. “These people walked out scared as hell,” he said. “And I thought, This guy is wasting no time to flex his muscles over there.”
The treaty failed. Cruz explained, “I personally have been passionate for a long, long time about protecting U.S. sovereignty, that our laws should reflect American values, American mores, and not be governed by the laws or tribunals of foreign nations or foreign institutions. I urged my soon-to-be colleagues to protect U.S. sovereignty, and ultimately they did so.”

I believe Cruz intends to say that the final agreement impacts US sovereignty, and he will lead the opposition against it. But the fast track legislation will remain in effect, allowing him to negotiate the trade agreements in 2017.
No, he needs to OPPOSE THE FAST TRACK. Or he’s done.
I could care less about what he says, what he does is the only issue.

If you do have doubts...then might be good idea to stop tearing up Cruz until you’re convinced of what you do believe.

Here’s from the NY TIMES
“Senate Republicans on Tuesday blocked a sweeping overhaul of the once-secret National Security Agency program that collects records of Americans’ phone calls in bulk.
Democrats and a handful of Republicans who supported the measure failed to secure the 60 votes they needed to take up the legislation. The vote was 58 to 42 for consideration.
Cruz was one of the “handful of Republicans” who voted to stop the collective of data.
That is very interesting. I have listened to the first link so far, not the entire thing, but from where it starts on the questions of TPA and TPP.
To be honest I find Cruz’ answers heartening, and I appreciate you linking me that which I am going to listen to again.
I understand where he is coming from on free trade, I think, and I don’t think that I have a problem with his position as it relates to TPA.
I realize that he doesn’t trust Obama, I don’t trust Obama, I wouldn’t vote to give this man any authority at all even if it is 6 year authority and will benefit the next president, which Ted hopes is himself, more than benefits Obama. I can get my head around that.
What I can’t get my head around is this being done in secret.
My opinion on this is that no bill should be done in secret ever. If any bill is placed in secrecy, then it should be voted down 100% by every single person on that basis alone.
I do not trust my government. I do not know that what is in that bill is about free trade. I know that my government likes to write bills entitled Feed the Children, for example, which sounds all peaches in cream, but what the bill actually does is feed children to sea monsters, or whatever.
I am just making a joke there, but what i mean to say is that they are liars. Purposeful deceivers. if my government tells me it’s midnight, then I know it’s high noon and the sun is high in the sky.
That’s where I am, I have no trust, and I am not sure trust can be rebuilt.
I still really enjoy hearing Ted speak too. I enjoyed hearing his answers.

Why does he have to oppose fast track? He doesn’t oppose fast track, he wants it. He’s voted for it- it’s done.
Based on his prior record, that I’ve provided above, I think he votes against the trade agreement.
If that does matter to you, I understand— you’ll vote for someone else.

TPP is not TPA. They are completely separate. And if you had listened to the youtube link of this thread you would be informed of that fact.
If you have any class at all, apologize humbly and assure others you will do your homework next time before passing judgments.

But obviously it would be nice to give knowledgeable input into our congressmen.
BUT - more to the point, it seems that this trade bill is really being hyped as so secret (and ominous). I would like to know how many other bills are like this? Are most of them in secret? Just a few? It almost seems like a setup to split the Conservative candidates (which it has), and the secrecy does not allow the candidates to fully explain their positions.
I heard Cruz talking about a previous H1B visa bill that he supported. Where the people hiring would have to prove that they did not have enough Americans with the skills needed. I understand that lots of Americans are out of work - but those probably aren't the type that can program computers in the latest languages, etc.
Of course I suppose the software companies can say “must know COBOL and Irun dialect of Kush” in order to meet the H1B requirements.

The legislation is secret. They signed an agreement not to tell us.

There is not a single comment in favor of this deal or Ted’s position on it.
No one likes this secrecy business, and it appears to be really, really hurting Ted.
I respect him and pretty much love him and this is hurting me to talk about this stuff, but secret bills?

Cruz does not support secret legislation.
TPA is NOT secret.
TPP is secret.
TPA has been voted on in the Senate.
TPP has not been voted on.
Ted Cruz has stated at a May 30 NH Town Hall that keeping TPP is STUPID. He is not in favor of keeping it secret.
However, TPA requires TPP to be made public for 60 days before TPP is voted on.
TPA is not secret and is not a bad bill. TPP is secret and may be a bad bill.
