The rash of tough pro-vaccine bills that infected state legislatures after the Disneyland measles outbreak has largely faded, and based on the uproar in California, its not hard to see why.
The state capitol has been flooded off and on for months with parental-choice advocates drawing thousands for protests against Senate Bill 277, which would eliminate personal belief or religious exemptions and require all children without a medical exemption to be vaccinated before entering public school.
And the outcry has only grown louder as the bill nears passage, spreading beyond the issue of vaccination safety and morphing into a full-blown revolt against government intrusion into civil liberties.
At a rally Tuesday in Sacramento that drew a crowd of more than 1,000, Republican assembly member Shannon Grove told the sign-waving crowd that California state legislators have forgotten who they work for.
There is no public health crisis here that warrants this law. These politicians dont want you to think for yourself, said Ms. Grove to enthusiastic cheers. They think they are better parents than you are and they are annoyed that you are clogging up their hallways. They are annoyed that you are demanding to be left alone. They are annoyed that you are not compliant.
Even so, Democrats on the Assembly Health Committee approved the measure Tuesday on a 12-6 party-line vote, placing the measure on a glide path to the Democrat-controlled Assembly and the desk of Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown.

California Vaccining Nanny State PING!
If vaccines actually work, then if you do not vaccinate your kids who is hurt - ONLY your kids. So, does this tell you something about the system?
But then again, your kid could catch something from another kid and spread it to other unvaccinated kids.
If you care enough about your children to want to avoid the vaccines because you think they might be harmful, why then are you putting them in public day prisons in the first place? There is a high level of hypocrisy here. You fear harm to your children from vaccines but you inflict permanent mental harm on them by putting them in public schools.

Do California schools actually teach reading, writing and arithmetic in addition to indoctrinating the kids?
Good I getting tired of yenta in West LA everybody know vaccine works
Bitching about it
I hate those annoying Yenta in West LA they were cause of Disneyland outbreak Sac-town Bee has the story
However, this and all medical choices ought to be a parental decision only. The state should make an effort to educate parents and then allow them to decide. Beyond education, making anything mandatory should require a much more compelling state interest than is present even for vaccination.
Nothing new in the People’s Republic of Taxifornia. I know. Lived here most of my life. The most “UN-free” state in the USA. And the losers in the electorate just keep voting the Manifesto Mob back in. Once was a great state -— forty years ago. And a great place for liberal takers who need someone to tell them what they can, and cannot, do with what should be freedoms.
CONTORL!!! it’s a communist liberal thing
Good. We’ve had measles outbreaks here (and others) DIRECTLY related to non-vaccination. Some kids died, Don’t get it if you don’t want it but keep your kids at home and stop infecting the rest of us.
I just don’t understand why Californians still bothers to think about stuff like this. You know what I’m saying? Your state is not free. Why do you think your “outcry” makes any difference. Do the Chinese cry against the 1 child policy? When Cali governmnet starts selecting which of your kids will be homosexual are going going to cry then?
there is no vaccine against jihad or corrupt politicians
Will illegals be exempt? The super bugs are walking right across the border and in to our schools.
California seems more and more fascist every year.
Why Blame Anti-Vaxxers Instead of Immigrants for Measles Outbreaks?
The usual clickbait sites are gleefully blaming anti-vaxxers, parents opposed to vaccines for their children, for the measles outbreak. They are certainly a safe target, but overlooked is the simple fact that there would be no outbreaks without immigration from countries where measles is widespread.
So much vitriol is spent on blaming parents who dont vaccinate, while blaming those who import the disease, especially Obama with his border rush amnesty, is politically incorrect.
Asked if the anti-vaccination movement contributed to the latest outbreak in California, a spokesman for the state health department Carlos Villatoro, said in an email: We think that unvaccinated individuals have been the principal factor.
Obviously unvaccinated individuals are a factor and the average liberal smiles having his prejudices reaffirmed. But unvaccinated, does not necessarily mean those opposed to vaccinations.
The United States eliminated measles, but immigration, particularly from the Third World, kept bringing it back.
A study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association Pediatrics last year found that 88 percent of measles cases in the country were internationally imported or epidemiologically or virologically linked to importation.
There were a few cases not linked to any kind of importation over a period from 2001 to 2011, but they did not seem to be endemic, researchers said. The study ultimately found that while endemic measles was still eliminated, international importation remained a serious risk.
As long as people are traveling to and from other countries, and as long as some of these people may be unvaccinated and they may come into contact with other unvaccinated people, the risk remains of measles cases in the United States.
Its doubtful that measles cases skyrocketed last year, increasingly threefold, because of Jenny McCarthy. There was a little thing called amnesty which brought with it a border rush and plenty of other diseases.
State whooping cough epidemic claims another life; Marin cases on the rise
Sonoma, Napa, Lake and Mendocino- also.
Thanks for the ping!
