Why its absurd for conservatives to oppose a free-trade deal just because the White House wants it.
As far as I can tell, there are two general objections to the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) the White House is pushing for. The first one is wrong, but at least substantive. The other, which has picked up some currency on the Right, is simplistic and partisan. So theres something for everybody!
First, some background. The Trans Pacific Partnership, a trade deal with Asian nations that the White House and congressional Republican leadership both want, would still have to survive an up-or-down House and Senate vote, regardless of what happens with the TPA (TPA, or fast-track negotiating authority, as it used to be called, has already passed the Senate and is expected to come up for a vote in the House soon.)
So lets begin with the objection that is sincere, if (in my opinion) flawed. Just as technological advances create winners and losers, free trade also has its ups and downs. If consumers can stretch their dollars further because the goods they can now purchase become cheaper, that means they can provide their family with more stuff for less money, presumably allocating the leftover money to other areas, such as savings or purchasing other goods.

You can be against free trade if you want, but dont try to tell me its just because you dont like Obama. Come on, you can do better than that.

Except you have to pay for goods twice, once at wall mart and once on April 15 to support the welfare state of an idled manufacturing workforce. Closing factories also damages national security.
When factories are in the USA there are just winners and winners.
Free Traders would have us believe that they off shored their factories overseas to shave off 5% at retail and pass all of the “savings” go to the US consumer. They did it for us, they got nothing out of the deal. LOL

And I see the WSJ this morning in an unsigned editorial is calling opponents of TPA "protectionists" and "the dumber or more partisan Republicans." I'm calling our member of congress this morning to once again urge a NO vote. We need to pour it on.
Obamatrade, Obamatrade
Umm ummm ummmm!
Brady is mine too. Last time I phoned to oppose a vote for Boehner as contined speaker, and the voice on the other end told me what a great conservative he was, and would take on illegal immigration. I don’t waste me breath on phone calls anymore. People keep re-electing RINO Brady, nothing I can do about it.
A bigger welfare state, devalued dollar and higher taxes, Yeah Free Trade produces a lot of “winners”. I’ll bet that downtown B-more CVS was full of Chinese made crap.....
That meme's been going around a lot, the idea being that while nobody knows anything about what's in it they some how also know for sure it includes amnesty and killer robots. fwiw, here're the links--
--but my bet is that hatred of business is just that and no amount of info will change it. I mean, if secrecy really was the only issue than would it mean that everyone now loves NAFTA?
Please post this article.
Trade doesn’t close factories here (net) but Chinese mercantilism does. The problem with Obamatrade is that he hates Aemrica so we lose no matter what. Consumerism is never a good excuse for free trade, it is a red herring. The real value of free trade is getting better components for your own products.
If you're referring to the text of the bill, I don't see that.
I did see a link to an amendment to the bill, but that's not the bill itself.
What am I missing?
These secret “trade deals” (don’t call them treaties!) are totally bogus and illegitimate.
If we are bound to them, they are TREATIES and must be passed by 2/3 of the Senate.
If not, they are just chicken scratching.
Congress cannot pass a series of “Obama Enabling Acts” and abrogate their Constitutional responsibilities.
That is funny!
The most transparent Administration ever. ...yeah, right!
Yes, If Obamatrade will be anything like Obamacare, we don’t want anything to do with it.

This wretched editorial continues the standard WSJ mode of hurling insults at people on the other side of their pet issues. Opponents of "comprehensive immigration reform are "restrictionists" and "nativists" maybe even "racist." Well screw them.
Wall Street went leftist a long time ago.
Whatever destroys this nation and lines pockets will win with Obama in command. I would take bets on this but no one would take them. We all know what traitors they are. One day when we are overrun by the Muzzies and they start going home to home to kill white people and Christians (except for the pretty wives which they will save as sex slaves) Congressmen everywhere will huddle in their homes thinking they are safe because they live in gated communities with security guards. First they will hear automatic gunfire and will think “hey, we outlawed those!” then they will hear an engine with a low rumble speed up and then a loud crash as their gate comes down and think, “but i thought those gates were secure!” then will think surely they won’t be able to come through my heavy steel door or my bodyguards, “by god Im a Senator for christ’s sake. I am deserving of respect! Hell I met with al Quiada and ISIS in the Middle East and they like me. Why would they want to harm me now?” as he hears the same vehicle he heard earlier pull up to his house and the sounds of chains rattling up against his front door only to hear a loud pop and the shattering of wood and the frenetic movement of black uniforms pouring into house. The sound of automatic weapons riddling the bodies of his bodyguards and bodies hitting the floor. The black uniorms find him huddled in his closet and deliver a message, “your service is no longer needed” instantly understanding who the message is from, what’s about to happen, a d that he was led and betrayed the whole time for 30 pieces of silver (ell maybe a few million or so...)
That day is coming and the intellectual “giants” in Congress don’t understand or believe it will ever happen to them.
Good comments and links. Let’s not fall for the Marxist position. What is it with conservatives lately? It’s like they’ve lost their way.
