Why its absurd for conservatives to oppose a free-trade deal just because the White House wants it.
As far as I can tell, there are two general objections to the Trade Promotion Authority (TPA) the White House is pushing for. The first one is wrong, but at least substantive. The other, which has picked up some currency on the Right, is simplistic and partisan. So theres something for everybody!
First, some background. The Trans Pacific Partnership, a trade deal with Asian nations that the White House and congressional Republican leadership both want, would still have to survive an up-or-down House and Senate vote, regardless of what happens with the TPA (TPA, or fast-track negotiating authority, as it used to be called, has already passed the Senate and is expected to come up for a vote in the House soon.)
So lets begin with the objection that is sincere, if (in my opinion) flawed. Just as technological advances create winners and losers, free trade also has its ups and downs. If consumers can stretch their dollars further because the goods they can now purchase become cheaper, that means they can provide their family with more stuff for less money, presumably allocating the leftover money to other areas, such as savings or purchasing other goods.

You can be against free trade if you want, but dont try to tell me its just because you dont like Obama. Come on, you can do better than that.

No, no, no, Matt. You tell US why it's so great. Have you been to Obama's dungeon to read the pact? If it's so wonderful, why does it have to be kept secret until AFTER the fact.
Obviously SOMEbody is being set up to get screwed with this agreement (ObamaDon'tCare anyone?). Based on what you've seen from Obola up to this point (did I mention ObamaDon'tCare?), to whom do you think he sticks it?
Winners, the establishment, corny capitalist and wall street bankers and ilegal immagrants. Losers, the American people.
The TPA is one thing. The TPP is another , totally different.
TRANSPARENCY #smidgen
Okay, Matt. Based on your reading of the pact, what are the ups?
That was the case but now Daily Beast and Newsweak are separate blogs.
The cretin is strong in the beast.
And yes, if Dorkbama said it, it very surely is lead headed.
The man defines stupid.
Whoa, metals are steady, stock futures are up, claims are down and sales are up --it's got to be all caused by Obama right?
It’s all about transparency. If it is secret, they are hiding something they know full well will derail the bill.
Call your congress crooks today.

How can they cheer for something that is being kept secret from them? Unless it’s blind obedience to our Dear Ruler.
This genius has missed the mark regarding the opposition of the legislation that would give the POTUS authority to negotiate. But who can blame him, the GOP has not articulated a position clearly one way or another with any substance. And who can blame them? Nobody is allowed to share or discuss what is in the legislation for fear the public would find out.
So the proper articulation of the objection should go like this: Based on the past history of rope-a-dope legislation that has been contrived, manipulated and cajoled out of congress to give the POTUS more authority, we don’t trust the stated premise of the President or Congress. That the language is so secret is additional reason of pause. Granting any additional or extended authority to this President and/or conceding any additional oversight authority from Congress, regardless of past national traditions must be deemed DOA. In light of the secrecy and this President’s history, that seems the prudent approach in defense of what is best for our nation. Show us the legislation and explain what we intend to “negotiate” and we can re-convene.
What does it matter if the things you buy are cheaper, if you dont have a job or money to buy them with?
That’s what these free traders always miss.
To figure it out, would be like understanding the dynamic between a pimp and his whore
If you get the first, you get the second. They are joined at the hip. Anyone supporting TPA is supporting TPP.
Of course we can do better than that, and here it is:
Obamacare was negotiated and passed in secret without ever putting the bill into the public domain so all could see and read for themselves what Obamacare factually is.
Obamacare by all accounts is an unmitigated disaster.
And now we're repeating that same exact process with TPP, although this time with Republicans.
Given the precedent of Obamacare, it's quite easy, and I'd say damn' reasonable, to judge TPP as something BAD for American's.
Everything Obama does, he does to destroy America. That's his track record. No one can prove otherwise.
One step closer to the revol.....

Read it, it’s just a few posts down the screen.
Would YOU vote for it?
Color me skeptical.
Hey, Matt. Let's conduct a little exercise, shall we?
Let's say it's 2017 and President Palin has agreed to a pact with China and forces elected representatives to go to a deep dark room to read it, quick!, do you support of oppose?
Ohhhhh! Sorry! Times up!
