In an interview with American Public Media’s Marketplace, President Obama says fast-tracking the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade bill would help him advance his climate change agenda, which he said is “one of my highest priorities.”
During the interview with host Kai Ryssdal of Marketplace, Obama said, “If we want to solve something like climate change, which is one of my highest priorities, then I’ve got to be able to get into places like Malaysia, and say to them, this is in your interest.”
“What leverage do I have to get them to stop deforestation?” he asked. “Well part of the leverage is, if I’m in a trade relationship with them, that allows me to raise standards, now they have to start thinking about how quick they’re chopping down their forests and what kinds of standards they need to apply to environmental conservation.”
“So, we have to engage, not withdraw,” the president stated.
Obama is in a struggle, however, with fellow Democrats who argue the measure will harm U.S. workers and give the upper hand to big business. During the interview, he specifically pointed to the “mistake” his “progressive friends” are making in not supporting fast-tracking the measure.

..... The President has planned this as a way to get his policy and agenda through while at the same time .... protecting and shielding, for the most part, the Democrat Party from the negative effects that this Trade Pact will produce while at the same time achieving their ultimate objective .

Once this is passed and the negative effects of the Treaty are beginning to be felt, The blame game will begin ...... then suddenly the focus will be shifted away from a "Bi-Partisan" Treaty ..... to what will be portrayed as the mostly "Republican Bill" in an effort to blame the pain on the GOP .... and therefore help erode any remaining public support of the demonized GOP .... the only major opposition party once and for all. The objective of a single global economic treaty with, finally .... one party rule in America. The rest should be clear sailing for them from there.

By saying he’s in a trade relationship with them therefore he has the ability to make them change he seems to forget that WE ARE THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. We don’t have one point of leverage in a negotiation, we have thousands. He does not need this new power to negotiate.

I am...maybe was, one of the biggest Cruz supporters here. But he voted for this, and I don’t understand why. We’ll see how all this boils down, but at the moment I’m feeling betrayed by a guy that I thought was going to be the next Reagan.
It is my view that any one who supports obama on this madness is politically finished. I,of course, talked to my Congress person’s office today and I delivered this message. “STOP OBAMATRADE COLD OR YOU ARE FINISHED IN THIS STATE” I asked her to read it back— She did. I said how are the calls going— she said “ nobody supports this Mamm.” Keep it up freepers Now or never.
Congress doesn’t really vote for America or for conservatism or for liberalism or most importantly for our COUNTRY and NATIONAL SOVEREIGNTY and our CONSTITUTION. (sorry about the shouting)

I told my guy today too. I said you have a constituent today that has donated and supports you, BUT if he votes for this, he and the GOP will have a constituent from hell. I will write letters to the editor and make calls to talk radio and do anything I can to sweep out the anti-American trash.
In the product evaluation business we call this a “fatal flaw” that makes the product (or Congressman) no longer suitable. Immigration amnesty is another such flaw.
There was a vote today on whether Americans have the right to see country of origin labeling on their meat products. The WTO says we don’t. I believe we need it. If my Congressman voted not to block this amendment by the meat producers he will feel the wrath of one motivated constituent. We must require that our Congress support the USA.
