A police officer slams an unarmed 15-year-old girl in a bikini to the ground, pulls his gun and kneels on her as teens on either side of him shout and, of course, record the encounter. Within hours, millions watch the video: Some see a defenseless black teen being manhandled by an out-of-control white cop; others see a lone, scared officer in the crowded, chaotic aftermath of a fight he doesn’t yet understand.
Cellphone video has become as much a part of policing as tickets and handcuffs. Video images of police shootings have sparked national turmoil. But Friday’s ugly, cacophonous scene in McKinney, Tex., at first seemed like something more routine — a call about misbehaving teens at a pool party on a hot Texas afternoon.

I agree. Every other officer at the scene handled the situation professionally. They appeared to be calmly (but authoritatively) speaking to people, trying to determine what was going on (e.g., who had the right to be there and who didn’t), and trying to de-escalatet what was already a tense situation.
This guy did none of those things. As you said, it’s not one of the more “egregious examples of a rogue cop,” but is most certainly an example of an officer who needs to do a better job of keeping his composure under stress (or, if he can’t do that, finding another career). He should look to his fellow officers for an example as to how to conduct himself.
Police officers need to learn how to say, “pretty please!”
Looks like he was one of the residents that was trying to help restore some order.

Couldn’t pay me enough to go into a situation like that.
You pull your gun, and you are seconds away from shooting someone- unless you think it takes a significantly long time to move your finger ONTO the trigger, or that a gun is a merely a pointing device
And my point is that he put himself into the position where he felt he needed to draw his weapon. He escalated the situation every place he went. Just listen to the video and the panic and screaming that starts every place he runs.

Boo-Hoo! to the gal complaining about unfair treatment....you smart mouth a cop and don’t sit down...you create your own situation thereafter..........You rush a cop....expect him to defend himself.

Not only that, one of them was repeatedly pulling up his shorts ... which to the cop in the situation probably looked like the guy was reaching for something.
,,,, if these folks who seem to always be second guessing the police tactics think they have a more mild , peaceful , reasonable , rational approach to responding to these arrogant yutes who have little respect for anything or anybody then let them handle these cultural misfits and allow the cops to enjoy their coffee and doughnuts instead of screwing up their peaceful day .
The DJ is at fault for inviting kids he had no right to invite.
He should be charged for causing a riot.
But the office still was not in control of himself and it could have gone very very badly once his gun came out of his holster.
You are correct- he was outnumbered and trying to establish control. But doing a very very bad job of it.
If you don’t see anything wrong with his actions then watch the video again. There is clearly more shouting and panic and escalation every where this officer runs.
Once again, in crowd control rule #1 is DO NOT ESCALATE things.
He did not know how to handle this situation. Running from kid to kid screaming and swearing like that, put him at their level.
The two other officers at the scene should have made him stop and calm down, while they regrouped to reconsider how to address a large group where they were clearly outnumbered.
It looks to me like a group of UNINVITED young black thugs joined the party and started all the trouble.
Many of the kids there were very respectful to officer idiot.

TURNS OUT that all the FIGHTING STARTED with a scuffle between the DJ and a RESIDENT. That is what got the cops called.
Have you seen the video of the FIRST FIGHT ?
That was when the situation escalated out of control and the neighbors called the police.
The cops weren't there yet, so WHO do you blame for that ?
Why is the officer's cursing a problem while the DJ had been playing RAP MUSIC with OBSCENE LYRICS for an hour ?
I think that when you come on strong, with such EXTREME OPINIONS of the INCIDENT, and WHO was RIGHT or WRONG (like you did about the officer involved), then it would behoove you to FIND OUT the ACTUAL FACTS FIRST.
The DJ is FEMALE.
If you have that wrong, what else do you have wrong ?
