The former psychiatrist in chief for Johns Hopkins Hospital is pouring rain on the Bruce Jenner “Call Me Caitlyn” parade that’s sure to have the former Olympic athlete’s cheerleaders steaming.
Not only does Dr. Paul R. McHugh consider changing sexes “biologically impossible,” he thinks being what is popularly called “transgender” these days is actually a “mental disorder.”
McHugh, who has authored six books and at least 125 peer-reviewed medical journal articles, made the statements in a piece he penned for the Wall Street Journal that argued surgery is not the solution for patients who want to live life as the opposite sex.
Such people, he wrote, suffer from a “disorder of assumption” in believing they can choose their sex.

If pharmacology can change a man who feels like a woman into a “woman”, or change a woman who feels like a man into a “man”, why can’t it change a man who feels like a woman into a man who feels like a man, or a woman who feels like a man into a woman who feels like a woman?

Because science hasn’t figured out a drug yet that commits you to a choice. If that were the case I would want a drug that makes me choose to be Superman.
The other thing being in the news as a person who gets a sex change is it is misdirection.
Why is the “transition” even necessary? Why get the surgeries, take the hormones, wear the different clothes, etc.? Doesn’t this process end up reinforcing gender roles that these people are rejecting? If I remember correctly, before you even start with the supposed treatments and surgeries, you have to start living as a member of the opposite sex. For someone like Jenner, that seems to entail growing out his hair and being as frilly and princess-like as possible. You know, being womanly. How traditional!
Nature produces oddities as genes mutate for any number of reasons. Life is a tender thing in a chaotic universe.
As for the chains that bind us, environment or genetic or otherwise, organs come and organs go.
I like my Wurlitzer just where it is. Others might differ. Or defer judgment.

Cross-dress and go fill out a form at DMV and poof, you've changed your gender. All scientists agree that this works... the science is settled.
These transgender people have it easy. I want to be a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. Ever priced that surgery? My Obamacare won’t cover a Turtlectomy unless I’m a displaced person from the Galapagos Islands.
It should lead the news ever time this topic is mentioned, but we all know the Liberal monopoly on access to the public is tightly controlled, and no dissenting views are permitted to reach the public through the airwaves.
Because this treatment has been outlawed.
(Actually, this hasn't been outlawed, BUT talk therapy to accomplish the same sorta thing for homosexuals who desire to not be homosexuals HAS been outlawed in one or two states.)
A 30 year study of sex change patients show a 20-fold increase in suicides after 10 years. Surgery/hormones makes their mental illness even worse. Bruce Jenner will probably kill himself in a few years after the speaking engagements dry up.

I’m glad to see a professional in a position to know about mental disorders speak truth on this-good for him!
I would not knowingly put a transsexual person on a crew of mine-not only would the contractor have my scalp for it, but people with serious issues like that are loaded guns with the safety off-whining, attention getting behavior, and the real possibility of a lawsuit when a co-worker decks them because they are sick of hearing them bitch...
Well, for what it’s worth, I’ve known that I was superman since I was about 8 years old.......It’s been my fear of heights that has kept me from leaping tall buildings with a single bound.
Or, in these cases, being mistreated by a mother, father, uncle, neighbor, stranger, etc., causes the mind and psyche to not proceed down the path of normalcy which it otherwise would have taken.
Normalize the perverted sexual / gender outcome, and you have normalized the abuse and trauma that created it.
We should feel sympathy for Bruce, but not legitimize his actions.
I identify as the Supreme Emperor of the Milky Way Galaxy and all those bigots and haters just won’t recognize my true self.
