The Republican establishment is ready to take another crack at unseating Rep. Walter Jonesand it might have found a new candidate to lead the charge.
Anthony Tata, the Republican secretary of transportation in North Carolina and a veteran with nearly three decades of military experience, is preparing to run in a primary against the longtime GOP House member, according to a half-dozen sources with knowledge of the planned campaign. One source close to Tata, granted anonymity to speak candidly, said the secretary is "seriously looking" at a campaign but cautioned there was not yet a timetable for his decision.

"They are saying: You can be for amnesty for illegal aliens, support same-sex marriage, be pro-choice on abortion, and you can still be welcome in our party. But oppose foreign aid or resist the War Party agenda, and you are a heretic who should and shall be purged.
With this massive intervention in North Carolina, not to elect some outstanding new candidate, but to kill the career of one defiant dissenter, the GOP establishment is sending a message to the Republican base:
Our Big Tent is not big enough to include Walter Jones."

In this episode of Washington Watch, Congressman Walter B. Jones (NC-3) is joined by Congressman Steve King (IA-4) to discuss immigration policy and Obamacare, among other issues.
Jones is a kooky RINO.
Could a North Carolina FReeper tell us about Tata.
So was Robert Byrd. Neither of them are conservative on other stuff.
>> Our Big Tent is not big enough to include Walter Jones." <<
Correct, because the GOP tent is only for ACTUAL Republicans. Jones is a closet liberal Democrat just like his dear old dad was. But Jr. has to run with an "R" next to his name because being a RAT party member is no longer a viable political affiliation in his region of NC.
The only reason why Walter Jones, Jr. is a Republican is because he got 38% instead of 40% in the first round of the Democrat primary in the newly black-majority NC-01 (his father was the longtime Democrat congressman there, but with less gerrymandered lines that yielded a white majority) in 1992. Had he gotten 2% more, he would have avoided a run-off against black Democrat Eve Clayton (who beat him in the run-off) and thus been the Democrat congressman for the most liberal district in the state. But since he was defeated, he waited two years and then switched to the GOP to run in the adjoining, conservative NC-02, and conned primary voters into voting for him. His voting record was pretty good for the first few years but then he went all Code Pink in 2005 or so and has been one of the most liberal Republicans in Congress since then (although, to his credit, he has continued to vote pro-life on abortion). Walter Jones is far too liberal to represent such a conservative district, and we need a single, qualified conservative Republican to run against him in the primary and take him out.
I saw this headline this morning, it gave me a headache.
It seems Susan Collins could keep the exact same RINO voting record she has, but start tweeting about how awesome Ron Paul is and start going to Tea Party rallies to scream about how much she hates the "establishment", and a bunch of these "patriots" would line up to endorse her for re-election and demonize any decent conservative who files against her.
If I were to pick a bird to associate with Walter Jones, it would be a pigeon with diarrhea.
The fact some conservatives heap praise on Jones for being pro-life and anti-illegal alien also reminds me of how Peter King fooled so many conservative groups for over a decade after the Clinton impeachment. Throw 'em red meat about how pro-life and anti-illegal you are, and they will overlook the fact you routinely side with the Dems and stab the GOP in the back on a weekly basis. Jones is worse however, since Peter King at least had the "national security" and "anti-Muslim" card to play, post 9/11 Jones doesn't even have that, he votes with the Dems to dismantle the military and sucks up to pro-Muslim groups under the guise of being "anti-war". I guess he's only anti-war if the ones doing the conquest aren't jihadists.
Susan Collins supports 12 million undocumented Democrats.
Bringing in 100 years of rat rule.
The only positive is she helped the most conservative and anti-illegal governor Paul LePage getting elected. She also voted against TPP because of minor reason.
Ah, so if she was anti-amnesty like Walter Jones Jr., the REST of her liberal voting record would be OKAY?
As I noted above, KKK liberal Democrat Robert Byrd was pretty solid on the immigration issue and said it was "sheer madness" for Bush to grant amnesty. Good guy in your book?
Your true colors are showing.
Susan Collins is right on 2 out of 100 things.
I would have supported whoever her primary opponent was; in the general I would have only voted for LePage statewide.
There’s people who defend Trey Gowdy and other loudmouths to no end, but Trey Gowdy overall is probably equal to Walter Jones.
Yes, and so is your guy Walter Jones Jr.
Take away his pro-life and anti-illegal alien record, and he's liberal on the other 98 issues out there.
Conservative groups across the board have consistently ranked Jones as among the most liberal Republicans in the House. He sides with the Democrats more often than any other Republican from NC. One of his strongest allies in Congress has been the far left marxist Dennis Kucinich. As AuH2ORepublican noted, Jones' family was well known for their progressive Democrat policies, he was raised a loyal big government Democrat like his daddy, he was a good leftist Democrat in the state legislature, and he'd STILL be a member of the Democrat Party today if he had gotten 2% more votes in his first primary campaign instead of losing to a black Dem and being forced to run in a nearby a majority GOP district under the Republican Party banner. We know where his heart lies.
>> Trey Gowdy overall is probably equal to Walter Jones. <<
Gowdy is about 10X to the right of closet Democrat Walter Jones. Jones was named the most liberal Republican in the House by National Journal last year. His voting record has moved leftward for the last decade. Comparatively, Gowdy had a 92% conservative rating in 2014, and 100% the previous year. His lifetime average score is 97%.
North Carolina’s 3rd deserves a lot better than RINO Walter Jones, Jr.
I don’t particularly like Walter Jones myself, but we have enough establishment hacks in the House Republican conference.
Well, Jones is no “establishment hack,” that’s for sure—he’s a Code Pink hack.
1)Anthony Tata isn’t “an establishment hack” just because of the title of this article
2)Jones is an arch-RINO, he’s to the left of the “GOP establishment”. That district could not do worse, “establishment hack” included.
