Secretary of State John Kerry suffered a broken leg in a bike accident in France early Sunday, and will return to the U.S. for treatment, the State Department said.
The cycling accident occurred near Scionzier, France, about 25 miles from Geneva, where Kerry had been holding nuclear talks with Iran's foreign minister, Javad Zarif.
Kerry was flown by helicopter to a hospital in Geneva in a stable condition, and is said to be in good spirits.
State Department spokesman John Kirby said Kerry had suffered a broken femur, but is expected to make a full recovery.
"Given the injury is near the site of his prior hip surgery, he will return to Boston today to seek treatment at Massachusetts General Hospital with his doctor who did the prior surgery," Kirby said.
He said the Secretary of State never lost consciousness, and was grateful to the French and Swiss doctors and nurses who assisted him.
Paramedics and a physician were in Kerry's motorcade at the time of the accident, Kirby said.
Kerry was due to head to Madrid on Sunday for talks with Spain's king and prime minister, before attending a meeting in Paris on Tuesday with coalition members battling ISIS.
Kirby said Kerry was planning to partake in Tuesday's meeting remotely.
Probably the only thing they actually trusted him to do..and he screwed that up.
The facts that (a) Big Gay Media has a history of covering for Obama and his minions, and (b) there is absolutely no info about how it happened, almost makes you wonder whether it wasn’t a “hey guys, watch me ride over this hill with no hands” type-of-situation.
Whatever, we’ll find out eventually.
I heard that Brian Williams was there and saw it all!
Remember how much fun the media had teasing about President Ford falling down on a ski slope? And he stumbled on the steps on Air Force One once too.
The crazy thing is, Ford was one of our most athletic and physically fit presidents. Yet the media and comedians made him out to be a clumsy out of shape old man.
I get it . . . . ROTFLOL
The bike was probably made in Vietnam . . . He was there, you know? Really!
I might raise my eyebrows if a 70-something who had undergone two hip replacement surgeries told me he wanted to continue to engage in vigorous, competitive athletics. Since Harvard has the best and brightest people around, so I have little doubt that Kerry's doctor must have told him that it was a good idea.
Who am I to second guess them?
“Is it fatal?”
No, much better, lots of pain for a long time. And probably catheters, too. And no more skiing for a while, if ever again.
Beat me to it.
I was thinking at his age he needs one of those three wheeler bikes that can’t tip over. An electric three wheeler is far too sophisticated and complicated for him.
I find it interesting that the things the elites approve of get a pass
like running, strenuous exercise, repetitive exercise, climbing, and homosexuality.
All these things raise healthcare costs.
GASP! Are you suggesting that the ‘french appearing’ John Kerry (whoservedinVietNam) be given an adult sized TRI-CYCLE? He’ll end up looking like Benny Hill, falling in the rain.
I guess he’ll be getting his 4th Purple Heart.
Yep it sure is. I shattered mine in 89 and got all 12 screws in me forever till the end of time. But i play one year of softball about 7 years later.
In the legal world, such stupidity relates to a “frolic”, an act outside the expected task one is directed to perform. Thus, idiot Kerry should be held personally liable for the costs.
To say that he is "disdainworthy" would be an understatement.
Why can't Hillary also ride a bicycle??
Really...
Ironically, it was Harry Reid’s stationary bike.
ROTFL
Later in this thread, will you please tell us how you really feel?
honestly, anything that gets that Dork out of the Iranian demands room is a good thing. Lurch needs to retire and just live off that dead Republicans money (aka. the real Mr. Heinz)
