Were fascinated by the bizarre beliefs of those who lived long ago. To learn that people once thought the Earth was flat. To see old maps that depicted dragons and mysterious lands where giants might roam freely. We look at these old beliefs and shake our heads, so secure in the knowledge that we have come so far. In some ways, though, the things we believe today are as far off the mark as those old maps.
Consider a new poll from Gallup that shows that Americans think 23% of the population is either gay or lesbian. Thats not an easy demographic to pin down, but the best estimates say thats an overshoot of titanic proportions.
A Gallup Daily Tracking poll from this year shows that only 3.8% of the adult population identifies themselves as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender. So what, right? Well, it has a significant effect on how we view this country, the policies we vote for, and the politicians we elect. It even goes further than that, deciding the kinds of beliefs we hold about ourselves, our communities, and the world at large. And though Gallup blames the overestimation on Americans predictably poor ability to determine demographical representation, a more obvious culprit should not be overlooked.Weve become a society obsessed with media.
Americans devour TV shows and movies without restraint, and it has had a warping effect on the way we see the world. Proponents of same-sex marriage and other liberal policies say that this is a good thing. Gay characters in movies and shows serve to broaden our worldview, giving us empathy for those we may not meet in our day to day lives. And thats true to an extent, but the problem is that these movies and shows do not accurately reflect the world at large.
Is Gallup was asking how many modern fictional characters were gay, 23% would probably not be far off the mark. They are wildly overrepresented in the media, and that leads to some very unfortunate changes in society. On the other side of the coin, the average American is vastly underrepresented in the media.
People who go to church regularly and uphold traditional values in their personal lives are nowhere to be found. If they are there, they are made to look like weirdos and freaks, despite being far more like the average viewer than the producers would like us to think.
These producers would have us believe that their art is a reflection of society, but thats only true insofar that its a reflection of Hollywood, New York City, and other liberal cities. Those societies are hardly an accurate picture of America. We would do well as a country to unplug our television sets and throw them into the backyard.
We are learning how to live our lives from people in bizarre communities that have nothing to do with the way human beings are supposed to behave. It is verifiably changing the policies we support, the values we uphold, and the people we elect. Art and entertainment have always been a part of civilized society, but the line between fiction and reality has grown far too blurry.
Hollywood may not reflect the real America, but its only a matter of time before America is a reflection of Hollywood.
Obamacare is just one attack. Homosexuals as a group are by definition anti-Christian.
There is one fact about homosexuals that can't be argued against: they commit the vast majority of serial killings. In short, they have lived their hell-bent lifestyle to the point of insanity.
Yeah, but the White House, Democrat Party and those controlling Washington, as well as the entertainment and media industries, are controlled by the homosexual lobby.
Faggies are less than 2% yet they rule, thanks to Obama.
Well, I think it’s about time people started to appreciate us male lesbians.
Lesbians won’t appreciate male lesbians; they will opt for a fat hairy shemale with a false appendage long before they will side up to a man who is supportive of them.
For some, it’s about gender hatred more than it is about love. I’ve met a number of women who “gave up on men” because of bad relationships and have seen other women try to convert some to their cause.
That America may eventually become a reflection of Hollywood would not be surprising. Movies and television are valuable propaganda tools for the Left. As Hitler well knew, that if you repeat lies big enough often enough a great many people will come to believe them. This Hollywood does with a skill that would turn Hitler’s propaganda minister, Goebbels, green with professional envy.
Jeez, that's double what their highest claims are.
Yeah, it’s anecdotal, but of all of my hundreds of friends and good acquaintances, I can only count 6 male homos and one female homo (that I know of for sure). My best friend, was one of the first in the nation to die of aids. I loved him dearly and he would have likely been a great actor. He used to mock the flamboyant gays. It was funny to see. The other 4 gays that I know have strong narcissistic traits. The lesbian self identifies as a conservative Republican, and it’s fun to golf with her as we both swoon over the Beer Cart girl. My point? Well, the stats play out, and even within MY little homo group, only three are militant and they likely have other mental issues since they’re narcissists....I find their grievances to be invalid.
Because if the ungodly can convince the general population that there are millions of Americans marked for life by the disability of homosexuality, it is only “fair” that we compensate these wretches by giving them everything they want, no matter how bizarre. And by George, it’s working.
It does and it doesn’t. Have you noticed there is virtually nothing coming out of Hollywood today except remakes of prior movies? And I think theater attendance is way down, no one wants to go to all the junk that Hollywood now churns out.

Exactly, there’s a second cousin in my family who is, but out of the large extended family going that far, that means less than 1 percent. Maybe more, but we’ll see. Even if we go by mentioning the awfully biased Kinsey study, one would find that even according to that, 10 percent were facultatively (by the situation) homosexual in a gender segregated environment known as prison, and only 4 percent were exclusively homosexual in that segregated environment of men only. (Plenty of the 10 percent would do a woman if they had one around).
Remakes are not inherently bad, but if someone is doing a remake, please do it with some intelligence and don’t mimic the original too much.
I would say that attendance isn’t all down so dramatically, but would rather say that a lot of what’s there doesn’t really catch much interest, but then again, I always only went to movies only so often. Plus I can stream movies on Amazon Prime, some at no additional cost past the subscription, essentially cheaper than going to a theater.
Re: “A Gallup Daily Tracking poll from this year shows that only 3.8% of the adult population identifies themselves as gay...”
That number agrees with the largest scientific survey ever done on this subject.
From memory...
About 2 years ago the Centers for Disease Control found that:
(1) 3% of Americans said they had engaged in homosexual sex at least one time within the last year.
(2) 4% at least one time in the last five years.
(3) 5% at least one time during their entire lifetime.
An interesting part of that study - which I have never seen discussed - is that one third of respondents who had engaged in homosexual sex at least one time before age 25, never had homosexual sex after age 25.

PFL
I can see where people think it’s 23% of the population with media pushing a homo character in just about every thing you see! I did a little polling in my area, and yeah, they thought 24% of the population was gay, and I started asking them who was gay... well, it soon turned out they all knew the SAME gay people!! We took in account of all the gay people we knew, and after some math of the local population, came in at 1%.
This lifestyle is overblown. Probably wishful thinking, but I can’t wait for people to grow bored with it and becomes non-relevant, like it was before.
