New York police allegedly arrested two men for “manspreading” (sitting with their legs far apart) on the subway, according to a report entitled “That’s How They Get You” released by the Police Reform Organizing Project.
“On a recent visit to the arraignment part in Brooklyn’s criminal court, PROP volunteers observed that police officers had arrested two Latino men on the charge of ‘man spreading’ on the subway, presumably because they were taking up more than one seat and therefore inconveniencing other riders,” the report states.

Do the transit police just arrest people they see sitting like this? I’m wondering, if they tell these guys to sit up straight, and they comply, doesn’t that solve the problem? Of course if the guys are belligerent, then all bets are off.
Come on. Stick to stereotypes. You know the black dude that’s sitting normal in picture 2 is better equipped than the girlyman in the leather jackets and shades that’s being a jerk.

It used to be NYC transit cops would tap a fellows like these on the side of the knees with a baton and tell them to close it up followed with a long stare. No need for an arrest or citation 99 out of a hundred times,
Do you know how rare it is for a transit cop to be riding in a car? The reality is they’re spreading all over the place, day and night. You have cars crammed with people standing such that more people can’t board—and these idiots blocking the seat on either side of them.
A ticket is in order.

Well...most men should be arrested for showing any bulge. It’s disgusting and promotes certain “sexual” ideas. It would be better for the public and the “childrens” if these perverts where in jail./s
I’m a guy and “man spreaders” are downright creepy -— it’s as if I’m sitting next to some pervert who’s trying to feel me up with his knees. If I ever live in a “subway city” I’m gonna sew thumbtacks into my clothes to keep away the prrvert man spreader.
We can’t start outlawing rudeness - and you’re right, it’s terribly rude. Maybe we need to teach our young ladies to speak up and tell the men to sit properly when in a public space..

This is terrible. I would not want to be a cop for anything. Common sense tells you not to take up more than one seat in a crowded public conveyance. That is rude; ungentlemanly.
Wait until they start after mothers taking, up space with bags strollers and such.
This is why I despise cities. It’s always something and overcrowding with the border wide open is only going to get worse. Crime, creepiness, disease, stench, filth...
