Ben Carson Among Top Five Republican Contenders Tied for Lead, New Poll Says
Christian Post ^ | 05/30/2015 | Anugrah Kumar

Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson talks to pastors and community leaders during a meeting at the Bilingual Church in Baltimore, Maryland, May 7, 2015.

No clear front-runner has emerged in the Republican field for 2016 in a new Quinnipiac University poll, which shows former neurosurgeon Ben Carson as one of the top five finishers, each with 10-percent support.

The top five contenders are former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, apart from Carson, according to the national survey conducted May 19-26 among 1,711 voters across the country.

Before officially announcing his running for president, Carson had gained the support of only 3 percent of the vote in the last Quinnipiac poll.

"Safe to say, the 2016 Republican presidential primary is anyone's race. With no frontrunner and identical numbers for the top five contenders, it's a horserace which can only be described as a scrambled field – at least so far," Quinnipiac University poll's assistant director Tim Malloy said in a statement.

Primaries are still several months away, but the poll results are significant because Fox News and CNN have said they will allow only the top-10 finishers, as per the average of recent poll results, in their premiere debates.

Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky gained 7 percent of the votes, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas got 6 percent, real estate mogul Donald Trump has 5 percent, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie received 4 percent and both Ohio Gov. John Kasich and businesswoman Carly Fiorina got 2 percent each in the latest Quinnipiac poll.

I like Carson. I am suspicious of a poll that puts Bush first and is missing Cruz. They are not polling Republicans then. It doesn’t matter what Democrats think.

Saying 10% among a gazilion candidates is a lead is ... absurd.

Today’s polls are meaningless.

Stupid poll tricks.

They should have only declared candidates included.

Ben Carson for ... President??? Are you kidding me?

A nice guy for sure but not even close to being qualified to be the next President of the United States. I’m afraid the Carson Ego is growing faster than the national debt.

Do us all a favor Ben and call it off.

I just don’t see it. Makes no sense. Its like electing Mister Rogers president. Another fine example that Republicans are the stupid party.

Agree. Completely pointless and an exercise in futility at this point in time. There’s a long way to go before the polls become anything close to being meaningful.

Bush and Carson? I don’t think so. Trump would do better than either one of them. Walker and Cruz should really be at the top.

Bush, Huckabee and Rubio are non-starters, if nominated, designated losers. All of them want to surrender the rule of law and the country to fraudulently documented foreigners.

Carson is a brilliant man, but not for President.

Cruz to victory or get Bushed!

You're observation is accurate.

Many of the "so called" polls are a combination ad and trial balloon.

The MSM and RINOs are both working overtime to IGNORE Ted Cruz because he would annihilate LIBERAL progress as well as disrupt Washington's "business as usual" scam.

These polls are absolute nonsense.

Serious people should recognize that they are not accurate, and often purposely misleading.

The GOP-E needs all the candidates it can get to stay in through the Super Tuesday primaries, which are all proportional representation. Then the winner-take-all primaries will seal the deal for Jeb or whoever the designee is.

Dr. Carson’s lack of understanding of the U. S. Constitution disqualifies him from high office. I am still appalled at what he said about the Second Amendment. And he allowed himself to be intimidated by the gaystapo.

How does one “work overtime to ignore?” He is merely one of (too) many candidates.

They have so many candidates to cover, they are spread around very thinly.

Straw pole at Thursdays county Republican meeting had Cruz at top with 16 votes, Walker second with 10 and Carson had either 0 votes or 1 vote.

I like Carson, but he has no chance. The mediawhores will destroy him. They can’t afford to allow a self-made conservative black man to rise without quotas and affirmative action.

“They are not polling Republicans then. It doesn’t matter what Democrats think.”

Republicans, in their wisdom, allow open primaries in some critical states.

Despite the media ignoring Ben Carson, we still know two important things about him.

First, he’s spent decades successfully performing brain surgery on children, which requires brilliance, character, and courage; and, second, he’s been able to win Republican presidential polls despite a lack of media attention, which requires an extraordinary ability to get the Conservative message across to audiences.

What more can Conservatives ask for in a presidential candidate or president than brilliance, courage, character, and exceptional communication skills?
