WASHINGTON -- Former Sen. Mary Landrieu, D-La., is joining the Washington lobbying firm Van Ness Feldman, the firm will announce later Tuesday (May 26).
Landrieu said she will join Van Ness Feldman as a senior policy advisor, working closely with another recent hire, former Rep. Norm Dicks, D-Wash., the former top Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee.
Former senators are barred from lobbying their former colleagues for two years after the end of their congressional careers. For Landrieu, that means she can't lobby colleagues until January, 2017. But she can lobby members of the executive branch, and is free to provide Van Ness Feldman clients with strategic advice.
Landrieu said the job will provide her with the "flexibility" to continue her work for the Walton Family Foundation, advocating on education issues, such as support for charter schools in New Orleans, Baton Rouge and nationally.
Landrieu lost her bid for a 4th Senate term to then Rep. Bill Cassidy, R-Baton Rouge, in a Senate runoff election.
Landrieu said she'll be working on coastal restoration issues, as well as energy policy matters, for Van Ness Feldman, a firm that includes both Democratic and Republican lobbyists.
The move likely signals that Landrieu won't be returning to the electoral arena. That's no surprise. Louisiana has become increasingly Republican.
With her defeat, the state has no state-wide elected Democrat. After her Dec. 6 loss to Cassidy, Landrieu said "Oh Lord, no" when asked if she would run again for office. Later, Landrieu said, she would not rule anything out, but added it is "very, very unlikely" she would run for public office again.

Gee, I really thought she would already have moved back into dad’s basement.
her family spent a couple of millions buying their house in DC recently. Actually, it was a good investment when she bought it a few years ago..mary would either be re-elected to the senate or she could become a lobbyist..thankfully for Louisiana she is now a lobbyist..
quelle suprise
The Mustang Ranch withdrew their offer because her character background didn’t check out.
Being an elected official is only a step away from the real money, being a Lobbyist.
The OLD girl caint leave Washington, DC!
Coastal restoration in Louisiana is another corrupt political money pay off scheme. Miss Piggy knows where the money is.
If she showed up at my office I’d laugh her out the door.
Maybe she should go to Scotland on vacation first and swim in Loch Ness. I suspect sightings will go up.
Yeah, nobody saw that coming.
The House, Senate, and State Houses are just a step on the career path of overpaid lobbyists eager to sell out America to the highest bidders.
Never shed a tear for these people. Once they are elected, they are assured a lifetime of easy high-paying jobs. People will fall over them and shower them with money because of their connections.
Lobbying what? Wing nut manufacturers?
It’s a rare occasion when any of them leave DC.
I really have to stifle my dirty little mind here................. :)
I never had a doubt Miss Piggy would land something like this, just being paid upfront now rather than in secret.
And you were right!
I find it disturbing that anyone would pay her for anything.
