CBS wasted no time in kicking David Letterman to the curb.
Just hours after Letterman said farewell after 33 years on late-night TV, Ed Sullivan Theater crews hauled off blocks of blue stage and hacked up pieces of the iconic New York City bridges that made up the set of the Late Show.
Fans and passers-by gathered around a police barricade cordoning off the Ed Sullivan to watch workers unceremoniously chuck red theater chairs into an overflowing Dumpster and take reciprocating saws to his miniature Brooklyn Bridge.

Kramer should grab the whole set and set it up in his apartment....
The fake city behind his desk was the best part of the show!
Overdue.
TV isn’t that into it’s own history. The show is over, that sound stage is now available (actually it’ll probably be used by his replacement), and it’s time to move on. One or two things are probably going to some museum but everything else is just in the way.
You don’t want to know what I called you for beating me to the punch :) I was so excited to post it!!
I have to agree with CBS on this one. Good Riddance.
Who?
:)
Mrs. RQSR, and I did not watch Letterman. When we occasionally caught a bit of his show while flicking channels years, and I mean years ago we did not find him humorous at all.
We grew old NOT watching Letterman.
Did they let Letterman off the set before they dumped it ?
I really don’t care....just curious.
You’d think though that CBS would have been smart enough to auction things like this off.
I’m guessing there are a few wealthy model railroading enthusiasts who would have had a really nice bidding war to be able to add that bridge to their layouts.
rather fitting ending to a truly FORMER funny guy..when his show started in the early 80’s, it was cutting edge..Larry “Bud” Melman, Chris Elliott, Paul and the band..truly cutting edge..then he went to CBS and after awhile it was just going thru the motions..and for some reason, when the GOP won the majorities in 1994, his open hatred of all things republican just got to be to much to stomach. What he said about Sarah Palin’s teen daughter would have gotten him fired in past years, or if it was said about a democrat’s daughter,(which I would also be mad about). Hasn’t been newsworthy, except his sordid sex life, for his show in years..
Yeah. What a contrast in attitudes this was with Carson’s last show.
Earlier this week a co-worker asked me, "What is David Letterman's real name?"
"What? What do you mean."
"Well, surely his last name is not LETTERMAN. So what is it?"
"I have no idea and have never really cared. I suspect that someone in his family was a 'Letter Carrier' and was assigned a last name."
I found Letterman incredibly boring, bitter, unfair, and for whatever reason he hated Cruz, Romney, and especially Palin. The tear-jerk fawning by Kimmel, O’Brien and maybe also other talk-show hosts over his departure sounded fake. They came across like drama queens. CNN also seemed to have a soft spot for him. the only time I watched him was when he had animals on his show.
Looks like someone snagged a bridge to sell on ebay since it is going inside a van. Someone with a model train layout would pay good money for that.
Wow.
I think you just won "post of the day".
what of the sex pit he had above the stage? Still in tact no doubt.
