In a statement, the group said it had seized tanks and killed "dozens of apostates", its description for members of the Iraqi security forces.
Ramadi is the capital of Iraq's western Anbar province, which is dominated by Sunni Muslims. Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi signed off on the deployment of Shi'ite militias to attempt to seize back the area, a move he had previously resisted for fear of provoking a sectarian backlash.
Earlier, security sources said government forces evacuated a key military base after it came under attack by the insurgents, who had already taken one of the last districts still holding out.
It was the biggest victory for Islamic State in Iraq since security forces and Shi'ite paramilitary groups began pushing them back last year, aided by air strikes from a U.S.-led coalition

IF a young person today totally considered these ciercumstances, I suspect that the volunteer rate for military would drop quite dramatically. Leftest liberals are outright communists but very few will challenge them on it. America will fall from within because of these buttholes. Yeah, they need to be held totally accuntable. the Republic can be restored after the fight is won . Civilians will never win this war. They may claim to wina few fights , but then they lose the war . ie: Vietnam . Millions died because America insists on keeping all power in civilian hands , no matter how badly they screw up . We are facing a situation far far worse than Vietnam , or arguably , even communism itself . The Islamitization of planet earth . What can resist this ? A bunch of civilian politicians put into office by a now totally corrupted and gamed 21st century political process in the USA? If we continue to rely on that we are doomed . As a people and a nation . The caliber of people we allow to be elected and put into power in this country are not deserving of the oaths that our Armed Forces swear to them .
