A 16-year-old girl has been gored by a bison in Yellowstone National Park while posing for a picture near the animal.
The National Park Service says the unidentified girl's injuries were serious but not life-threatening.
The agency described her as an exchange student from Taiwan who was visiting the park with her host family.
The incident occurred shortly after noon Friday in the Old Faithful area.
The Park Service says she and others were between 3 and 6 feet from the bison when she turned her back to the bison to have her picture taken. The bison took a couple steps and gored her.
The girl was airlifted to an area hospital.
The Park Service advises visitors to stay at least 25 yards away from bison in the park.

I have been to Yellowstone twice. Each time, they handed me one of these when I have entered the park.
Get the damn bisons out of there. It’s the people’s park.
That exchange family is doing a bang up job with the girl!
Mom and pop are gonna be just thrilled in Taiwan when they hear about this.
I suppose they’ll shoot the bison now.
Idiots think they are static displays for their own amusement. That girl is lucky to be alive.
It doesn’t matter, signs or no signs, a lawsuit by the “host” family is soon to come.
A good friend of mine was in the wrong place at the wrong time outside of Salt Lake City and an “assault buffalo” took him on. He was lucky. Only got a few broken bones and a collapsed lung with numerous cuts and some serious bruises. He was alone at the time and managed to make it back to the parking area where folks called the ambulance for him. I believe he had his episode chronicled in Field and Stream or one of those type mags. Lucky that the buffalo didn’t do the old head down grind him in to the ground thing that they’ve been known to do.
Bison are not puppy dogs! id hope that most visitors to bison country would KNOW that
“The girl was airlifted” Yep buffalo have a tendency to do that! Bad joke I know.

Ornery critters—and dangerous, too. Ron white is right.
No dear. This ain’t ole docile bossy
“The Park Service advises visitors to stay at least 25 yards away from bison in the park.”
That’s not much of a head start against an animal that can run 30 mph.
Circle of Life..
What was it the principal said in the movie “The Breakfast Club”? “If you mess with the bull, sometimes you get the horns!”
You don’t need to run faster than the bison, just faster than your friends...
She’ll have some nice scars to remind her of her stupidity.
I think I remember a golf course on the way to Park City that had a buffalo wandering around.
