That’s not much of a head start against an animal that can run 30 mph.
You don’t need to run faster than the bison, just faster than your friends...

I would assume that is the distance where the bison will not pay attention to you....not the distance you need to out run it....
Sadly, the Park Service has caved to stupidity. They should be warned to stay in their cars, and completely away.
