Ted Cruz Was Fearless Yesterday
Red State ^ | 5/16/2015 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 05/16/2015 9:16:29 AM PDT by VinL

Last night in Georgia, Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100% spoke to the delegates at the Georgia Republican Convention.

Regular readers of RedState know that the Speaker of the House in Georgia, collaborating with gay rights activists, left-wing Democrats, and big business, scuttled a state version of the Religious Freedom Restoration Action in exchange for Democrat votes on a billion dollar tax increase.

If conservatives wanted RFRA passed in Georgia, the Speaker demanded they gut the legislation with “anti-discrimination” language that would actually expand protected classes in Georgia for the left.

Ted Cruz (R-TX) 100% spoke last night and he called B.S. on the antics. He pointed to Indiana and Arkansas and assailed Republicans for hiding from the fight against the Democrat-Big Business coalition.

I’m told it did not go over well with Republican leaders, but it went over very well with the base of the party, which this afternoon is expected to endorse exactly what Cruz called for — real religious liberty protections.

Good for the Senator.

Eric should call this now-yearly ‘gathering’

A Gathering of Eagles.

you know, I saw a picture of him, wife and kids today. Although I’m 47 now, God help me, I got the same feeling of peace as when I was 16 and Reagan was sitting on the couch awaiting the 1984 returns. Please God give us this.

Cruz spoke twice yesterday. Before he gave the address at the Victory Dinner, he dropped in on the Minority Outreach Meeting in the atrium, and was very well received. Cruz supporters have a visible presence at the convention on the floor, handing out stickers and t-shirts. He’ll want to come back as there are significant numbers of Huckabee and Carson supporters to be courted.

Keep an eye on the state chair election. That will show the fault lines in the state party.

I’m very proud of our senator from Texas. I think he’s the real deal and am supporting him all the way.

He’s one of few politicians I have ever sent any money—and Reagan was about the only other one

Republicans hiding from the fight against the Democrat-Big Business coalition.

It’s how we got where we are with the help of the RINO.

He is fearless, and he’s ‘very quietly’ securing the base.

There will be NO CONFUSION in the base when it comes time to vote. The other candidates will have NO CLUE as to what just hit them. They will try to move his way...but no one will buy it, nor should they.

It didn’t go over well with Republican leaders, eh? Wait until the tsunami really hits - as the great Ronald Reagan once said “You ain’t seen nothin’ yet”.

You Establishment wimps won’t know which way to turn.

It’s not possible for me to hate my senators more. But I hate Chuck the most. He is evil incarnate. Yes, I’m from NYC/USSR.
I hope we get to steal your senator away for a higher calling :)

He has been my pick since I heard about him and read the MotherJones’ hit piece on him. He is magnificent on all but more H1b visas and other work visas and supporting retention of illegal immigrants stealing jobs. Those positions will shove me and lots of others to the Walker camp.

What is wrong with him on immigration?

He was storing it up, as he had just voted to keep TPA/TPP moving through the Senate to POTUS.

“What is wrong with him on immigration?”

I’m not sure Walker’s much better, but to answer your question - it would be difficult for him to win if he totally alienates Hispanics - and they do want to see round ups, even legal Hispanics. I work with one and he freaked out at the thought that he might have to produce his papers while cutting his front lawn - and the guy owns more guns than most gun shops. So you have to tread carefully there.

Regarding H1B’s...not really sure there - a good question for his campaign. I do know that he made some attempts to show just how insane Rubio’s Senate bill was by trying to amend it (in one case someone, I don’t think Cruz, proposed that the limit on DUIs for deportation be dropped from 3 to 2, it was rejected...go figure).

As to Illegals here - it’s not easy. Get rid of them and it will be years before another house gets built in Texas. I know, I hired the contractors for mine. They are like third stage cancer, you just can’t rip them out cleanly without huge disruption (and they did a damn good job, by the way).

But you probably think like me: What kind of country will our kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren have to live in if our demographics keep moving the way they are. Certainly not the country we grew up in, probably something in between Argentina (at best) and Mexico (at worst). To be honest, I don’t know if Cruz has thought that through, yet. But he is smart and he’s not controlled by anyone, so he may figure it out and act accordingly...which is a lot more than can be said regarding just about anyone else.

y ask
“What is wrong with him on immigration?”
Senator Cruz opposes the Dream Act amnesty. does not support illegals getting state tuition
and would strengthen border control

I would also ask why he supported TRIA. Perhaps he will answer that as well. Seems like business, like the H1b issue has some sway.

And, of course, how inappropriate it is to be vetting that right now in the election. He's a conservative, and meets my 5 tests, so I'll vote for him, volunteer for Cruz, and send real money to Cruz.

I'm not looking for 'purity'. That's a meme started by the GOP-E to hide that Romney was a liberal, not 'imperfect'.

Republicans hiding from the fight against the Democrat-Big Business coalition.

Not in Georgia. Here they are leading the fight . . . for causes favored by the Democrat-Business coalition.

Thanks. I do think that Ted may be a step ahead of us here. He likely knows the limits one can get away with on Amnesty (without totally killing off the Hispanic vote) and he doesn’t want to cross them...and kill off his chance to get the top job.

It is certainly beyond my political knowledge and likely beyond that of most of use here to know where he has to stop, but on every other issue, it is NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to say that he’s not connecting with the base.
