Tom Balek with Watchdog.org is doing the kind of local reporting that I hope we see more of. This story comes from the not terribly exciting sounding environment of a high school in South Carolina. Peyton Robinson is a senior at the local school who is also a volunteer fireman and drives his own pickup truck. Mounted in the back are two flags… one the American flag and the other a POW/MIA flag. Unfortunately, Peyton showed up for school one day and found that his display was no longer welcome.
Peyton Robinson, a senior at York Comprehensive High School in York, S.C., has been driving his truck around our end of York County with two large flags attached to the bed an American flag and one that honors military servicemen and women who have been taken as POWs (prisoners of war) or are MIA (missing in action).
On Wednesday, May 13, he was pulled from class and sent to meet an administrator in the parking lot, where he discovered his flags had been removed and placed in the bed of his truck. He was told by school officials, Do not return to school with these flags.
After school, Robinson drove home, re-mounted the flags, and decided that he was not going to allow anybody to mess with his truck, or his patriotism. He posted a photo of the American flag in his truck on social media with the promise: Still flying, and it aint coming down.
Here’s the offending vehicle.
The reasons that the school gave for removing Peyton’s flags were varying and not terribly convincing. They cited standing “school policy” which they could not produce in writing. They warned of safety concerns. (I sort of had some sympathy for that one because those are pretty big flags, but again, they had nothing to document it.) They also said that someone had complained. As I said… unconvincing.
The dispute made the local news and before they knew it the school had a wee bit of a problem on their hands. An impromptu parade formed up and the school suddenly had more than 70 flag waving vehicles parked in front of their entrance. Once that happened, there was an abrupt “change of policy” at the school, posted on their website. I’ll leave you to click through and read the verbal gymnastics they went through to let the community know that there weren’t in any way unpatriotic and that Peyton would be able to keep his flags.
One young man, a truck with two flags and a community full of people who admire the boy’s work ethic and patriotism. You never know what you can accomplish when you get the people up on their hind legs in support of a cause. Great article by Tom. Thanks for sharing this story.
In the second paragraph, “Do” should be “Due”.
And these morons are teaching our kids? Good grief!
and they has them deep seeded feelings....
American patriotism is alive and well in South Carolina!
Good job, young man!
God bless America and these fabulous South Carolina HS students!!!!!
they actually might think that is the correct phrase. They are just teachers and administrators. They don’t really know anything.
You know their are kids now who are so shaped as to have no patriotism at all, and if they do have it, maybe from home, they have no courage to show it, as Peyton did. They wouldn’t want to stand out from the dumbed down crowd around them.
This shaping is why America has finally become so compliant, so cooperative they can no longer possibly keep their country, but by the grace of God, and even He is ashamed of us.
“and they has them deep seeded feelings....”
Don’ you know, dat’ dey’s edumucating all dem chillin?
Seriously, what moron put out this statement? The parents ought to be down at the next school board meeting asking for several resignations.
She had a video of the “parade” with the yells & cheers. They interviewed a vet, and he was hostile about the student being denied flying it. This has been my “feel good” story of the day (saw it a Lucianne.com this morning).
This is what happens when Americans stand up to leftist intolerance!
"Pledge of Allegiance" should be properly capitalized.
"America was founded by Patriots..." "Patriots" should not be capitalized.
"Deep seeded" (rather than "deep-seated") and "Do to" rather than "Due to" have already been mentioned by other FReepers.
Regards,
I wonder if these kids are descended from old Patriot stock. York, South Carolina was the site of a turning point in the Revolutionary War.
For over a month in 1780 elements of Banastre Tarleton’s British force, a detachment of 115 Loyalists led by Capt. Christian Huck, roamed the South Carolina countryside terrorizing Patriot civilians, burning homes and threatening women.
Patriot militia officers began assembling their men with the idea of halting the British. 250 Patriot militia rode through the night of July 11th and caught Huck’s unsuspecting British forces at dawn at Williamson Plantation. In a battle lasting about an hour 25 to 50 British were killed, including Huck, and many more were wounded and captured. My ancestor Thomas Carroll is given credit for killing Huck.
Although this was a small battle it had the effect of galvanizing support for the Patriot cause and it was followed in short order by the larger Patriot victories at King’s Mountain and Cowpens. The British were now in for a hard fight and began chasing the Patriot army north in the Race to the Dan.
I’m thinking that one of Michelle’s minions wrote that abomination.
Yeah, she did, and I watched it
Who’s ever idea it was to force him to take it down ought be drug behind one of those pick em ups.
Im betting that there will be a large group effort to remove the morons from the skoo board
“they actually might think that is the correct phrase. They are just teachers and administrators. “
sadly they may.
