This citys Spanish name recalls grassy, spring-fed meadows that nourished the first farms here and gave laborers relief from desert heat.

If we makers would all flee California and just leave the takers your outrageous state pension and life time medical benefits wouldn't be worth a bag full of dog doo.
I moved to Dallas 4 years ago!
I miss the weather and Disneyland and the like.
But I am reading California’s fiscal revival is smoke and mirrors and they will be upping the taxes AGAIN next year to pay for — wait for it — CalPERS!
I have 15 years in CalPERS and I am more than willing to let them buy me out.
Since the incomes from inside California the will pay the California Income tax. Let them go.
>>If we makers would all flee California and just leave the takers <<
My time as a California State employee produced more value than you can ever imagine.
When I left they had to employ 4 people to replace me.
My dad retired from Lockheed, went to Reno. He’s a happy camper.
I think public employees who voted for decades to get their bennies and the state of the state to where it is, need to have taxes taken out of their retirement plans in the state they worked in, if they then flee the state to avoid the mess they’ve helped to make and forced everyone else to live under.

Don;t get me started: I have had many friends retire at 55 since THEY were able to put up with the BS of working for the State.
But their patience was rewarded and many of them are now contracting back to the State to double their income.
But remember, it meant 30 years or so of being a drone or, as in my case, being abused.
“Why CalPERS retirees flee California”
Because they can?
wow. sounds like your part of the problem
“Since the incomes from inside California the will pay the California Income tax. Let them go.”
That is no longer true. There was a time when any income earned in CA even retirement income was taxed by CA, but the laws have changed and CA can no longer tax retirement income for those who have moved out of the state.
need to have taxes taken out of their retirement plans in the state they worked in...”
Wholeheartedly agree. If they ever voted for it, they should suffer the consequences.
It's not just CalPers retirees who are fleeing Cali.
It's a large fraction of the productive class.
Rather thank whining or being vindictive, Cali should focus on being a less toxic environment to those who work (or are retired from work) and don't like what's happening in the once-golden state.
.
Was a born and raised SoCal kid....
Paid more than my share of taxes there....
I relocated my business and my family from SoCal to North Texas almost ten years ago. Best damn move I ever made.
The only thing I miss, is the land itself.
something not quite right about California govt pensioners escaping their state after pulling in all the money, leaving their old state basically bankrupt....only to enjoy the life in other fiscally responsible states....
I think it should be true of all govt employees...they should pay the income tax in the state they are getting all the goodies from.....isn’t it hypocritical of them to flee?
OMG!!! Yikes!!! That would not only be "embracing the suck," that would be compounding the suck!!!
That's worse than old Ross Perot's "Giant Sucking Sound!!!" E-gads, CA really does have a terminal case of GANG-GREEN!!! (That's been added to the BROWN-ROT!!!)
Politics is a disease.
