In a roundup of media encounters with the wide-open field of 2016 Republican presidential hopefuls, Jon Stewart last night took a shot or two at Bloomberg Politics’ Mark Halperin, who earlier this week apologized for his April 30 interview of Sen. Ted Cruz. Introducing the interview, Stewart said, “The candidates aren’t the only ones being vetted. See if you can spot which member of this interview also deserves to get primaried out of 2016,” said Stewart.
With that, “The Daily Show” inventoried all the identity-obsessed questions that Halperin posed to Cruz, such as: “It seems to me your last name is Cruz and you’re from Texas — just based on that, should you have appeal to Hispanic voters?” Also: “Do you got a favorite Cuban food?” And: “Do you have a favorite Cuban singer?”
Stewart mocked away: “Are you even Hispanic, senator?”
