Rand Paul's Son Pleads Guilty to DUI Charge

On Tuesday, the son of Kentucky Senator and Republican Presidential Candidate Rand Paul appeared in court where he pleaded guilty to a DUI charge.

Police cited William Paul for DUI and failure to maintain insurance after a crash last month.

The judge ruled that William Paul will have a 45-day license suspension and is required to pay $718 in fines and court fees. His license will be reinstated after alcohol education classes and the 45-day suspension. The failure to maintain insurance charge was dropped.

Police say last month, a witness saw Paul sitting alone in an SUV at the intersection of Old Vine Street and Woodland Avenue, revving his engine. They say that witness then heard a crash. Police say that SUV had hit another parked vehicle. They say Paul had a strong odor of alcohol, bloodshot, watery eyes, slurred speech, and was belligerent.

According to Paul's citation, he refused a blood alcohol test and failed a field sobriety test. They took him to hospital to be checked out for injuries to his face. He wasn't arrested.

Paul has faced alcohol-related charges in the past. In 2013, He was charged with assaulting a flight attendant and consuming alcohol while underage. Those charges were dropped. Later that year, Kentucky's Alcoholic Beverage Control cited him for alcohol possession of a minor at Keeneland.

Police classified this as an aggravated DUI charge because they say Paul refused an alcohol test. Neither Paul, nor his father has commented.

OH. Well.... can’t vote for Rand now. The sins of the son are being visited on the father.

Almost every family has one of these, unfortunately.
He’s going to die young if his family can’t help him get a handle on the alcohol problem.

It’s sad when a family member, especially a child, makes choices that bring pain to the family. HOWEVER, the kid got off very light. If he was in Texas, he’d be looking at about $12,000 in out-of-pocket expenses for Bail, Lawyers and fines; plus loss off License and Probation for a year. It helps to have a dad who is a U.S. Senator.

you know, in a roundabout way, this shows the fundamentally conservative nature of the Paul family. Living in a state where the biggest cash crop is marijuana, they still choose the more traditional form of self-destruction.

If this kid, this young, and has already had three alcohol-related public incidents, somebody better get his attention pretty quick.

I don’t fault Ron or Rand for what nutty things their children might do.

I do fault them for both being nuts.

About the same in Georgia, plus a mandatory first night in jail. A lawyer friend of ours says the total cost of a first DUI is approximately $10,000, and goes up rapidly for repeat offenses.

Yes in GA it would cost at least $10,000 and a year of license suspension and causing an accident maybe 6 mos in the slam. Its good to be a Senator’s son.

Before the Paul haters get too over the top remember Al Gore’s kid? Jeb Bush’s kids? It happens.

When it comes to a child’s actions, I never hold that against the parents. Your kids have more influences that you (music, peer pressure, movies, liberal culture, etc.). You are only a partial influence on your child, so don’t take all the blame when they screw up.

When young William was asked what his favorite beer was, he replied: “an open one.”

Good one!

But, he needs help. His judgement was impaired by alcohol and it is a good thing that this wake up call is now where no one was hurt or died as a result. Alcohol is a demon if abused. My cousin, who died at age 47, could not stop even after the doctor warned him that his liver function was down to 15% and could not tolerate another drop. If Rand Paul's son is underage, he needs help and Pronto!

Yap, Rand Paul’s idea of reducing government spending is pretty nutty. Why does he want to deprive all those people government checks? Why stress them out with a hard life of jobs?

Rand, like his dad, hold just enough decent ideas to suck you in. Then you read the fine print.

Do you care to list a few examples of Rand Paul’s nutty ideas? Disclaimer...I never did like Ron Paul. But he was elected again and again by his constituents in Texas.

This answer probably won’t satisfy your desire to know more, but I’ll explain my thoughts and you can determine for yourself if it makes sense to you.

My world view is that there will be a grand hegemon for the planet. It will be one that conforms to our world view, or it will be one that conforms to China, Russia, or the Iran’s of the world, world view.

I prefer it be our world view. Our world view may not be perfect, but it makes a lot more sense than the alternative world views.

When Rand starts talking about pulling back our troops and allowing the rest of the world to essentially fend for itself, I believe it reveals a complete lack of understanding of this dynamic.

We either remain engaged, or we begin to allow the others to whittle away our our ability to traverse the high seas, impact regional conflicts, and discourage adventurism negative to the United States.

When he prattles off on this, it completely destroys my ability to take the guy seriously.

Once this takes place, I note things as they pass here once in a while, and it confirms for me that my initial perception regarding him was right.

His immigration stance is something I can’t sign on to.

So do I think he has some decent perceptions? Yes. Can I support the guy? No.

Can I tell you every item I’ve read that feeds into my image of the guy? Not adequately enough I can’t, but over time I have observed enough about him that I have formed a very negative image of him, and nothing has over-ridden my concerns.

Like I said, this may not satisfy your desire to know more. It is the basis for my vision of the guy, and it makes sense to me.

I wish we, the United States, was the lone superpower in the world. We were that after WWII. And remained so until the disaster in Viet-Nam. My world view is no country can be a superpower without a super economy backing it up.

Like Trump says constantly, China is eating our lunch, taking our once vaunted manufacturing capabilities away. And the socialist liberals have relentlessly expanded welfare and entitlements to the point where our national debt is much larger than our GDP.

My own family tree has military tradition going back many generations. So my DNA is not pacifist. However the reality is that we need to get the economy strong again and get rid of national debt before attempting to project power in the world.
