Witness on train said the train decelerated first, then eventually derailed.
Almost sounds like something blew up the track in front of the train... engineer tried to stop, but couldn't avoid derailing.

The FBI has not ruled out terrorism. The FBI said that there is no evidence at this point of a terrorism nexus. CNN took it upon themselves to interpret this as ruling out terrorism.
This really makes me think criminal.
I work for Amtrak and I’ve worked on this train before. It’s crewed from New York and all of it’s crew was headed home. So far I’m having a hard time telling what’s going on. The only severe curve in the area is directly around 30th St. Station with speed restrictions only going up to 85 mph around the area. Just leaving Philly and coming into Trenton I can’t imagine the engineer not being on point.
From what I’ve seen on the news so far, the engineer saw something on started breaking, it wasn’t another train and usually it’s a person (it happens) and there are no crossings between was and nyc. I’m really concerned that there was something was on the track and that this was a terrorist attack.

Agree - That is NOT damage from a rail car that went onto its side and slide along the road bed.
Democrat solution would be to stack bales of $100 dollar bills all along the tracks to provide a cushion.
Could have been the overhead catenary arcing when the train went over. it’s possible the “explosion” was just the train derailing, as some people will call any loud noise a explosion.
IIRC, CSX has said none of their trains were involved.
That was my thinking right away, especially after all the terrorist warnings went up to a higher level this week.
Amtrak owns and operates the Northeast Corridor. CSX and Norfolk Southern have trackage rights for freight at certain hours. Amtrak handles dispatching.
The talking heads just got the ‘word’ that they are to blame ‘failing infrastructure’.
Normally, the rail functions as a return for the electricity. If the wheels from the locomotive came off the rail you would see arching.
