Which begs the question -- how many persons of color are there in Madison?
Answer: According to the 2010 Census: "Black or African American alone, percent: 7.3%"
(The city tilts about as far to the left as Havana, Pyongyang or Ithaca NY, but blond hair and blue eyes are some of the more common colors of Madison people.)
I’m old enough to remember when mixed race kids wanted to act white, not black. Even if they couldn’t “pass” they still saw that as the best path to social and financial success.
I visited a book store in Madison (Borders) shortly before the 2004 prez election. There were tons of books and pictures of John Kerry...finding literature about Bush II was like trying to find a needle in a haystack.
