First lady Michelle Obama may know the names of the worlds most famous clothes designers, and she may even know how to dance the Uptown Funk, but judging from her commencement speech to the graduates of a historically black university in Alabama, Americas race-baiting FLOTUS knows nothing about great American civil rights leader, accomplished scholar, and founder of Tuskegee University, the late Booker T. Washington.
Michelle Obamas remarks at the commencement sounded more like she was paying homage to W.E.B. DuBois, who believed in civil rights via agitation and political activism, than DuBois adversary, ex-slave Booker Taliaferro Washington, who wrote in 1911:
There is another class of coloured people who make a business of keeping the troubles, the wrongs, and the hardships of the Negro race before the public. Having learned that they are able to make a living out of their troubles, they have grown into the settled habit of advertising their wrongs partly because they want sympathy and partly because it pays. Some of these people do not want the Negro to lose his grievances, because they do not want to lose their jobs.
In a message that smacked of thin-skinned ungratefulness and hostility, Obama complained about the emotional toll shes endured as Americas first black first lady. If Mrs. Obama had taken the time to read Booker T.s autobiography, Up from Slavery, she would have known that stirring up racial animosity is an approach the author shunned.
It was Booker T. who once pointed out that great men cultivate love, and
only little men cherish a spirit of hatred. Yet the FLOTUS clearly thought that a Tuskegee commencement was as good a place as any to bring up the on-stage celebratory fist bump between [her] and [her] husband
that was referred to as terrorist fist jab.

When I was growing up Blacks used the epithet “Booker T!” like they did (and do?) “Uncle Tom” against other Blacks for “actin’ White.”
To many people sound off from ignorance--some here at Free Republic.
Much the same as they do now with Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams if they mention them at all.
The great tragedy of 20th Century America is that Black Americans chose to follow the direction of Dubois. Rights and entitlements enforced by the govt. Washington on the other hand tried to persuade his people to follow the directions of immigrant groups. Hard work, education small entrepreneurship. He accepted the Dubois understanding that immigrants were here by free choice and Blacks had bee slaves for 200 years and 3rd class citizens for 50 more, but he knew that self generated economic advancement would do more to bring about equality than political agitation. He never ever excused the unspeakable wrongs done to Blacks in America but he saw the situation not as how can we be compensated, but as we’re here. What do WE do now.
They were interviewing some blacks who summer in Oak Bluffs, Martha’s Vineyard. They called Michelle a Ghetto Girl.
Humility, empathy and introspection. Are 3 characteristics most people do not think of when they consider the Ibamas.
Really good post, jazu’.
Thank you, I thought Jeannie DeAngelis did a great job writing it and I forgot to enter her name as author, my apologies to her.
Michelle got into Princeton the old fashioned way. Her brother was the star of the basketball team. How “White” is that?
After these two exslaves speak I never want to live in their America.
It was so “we” and “they” or “us” and “them” oriented. You could just feel her hatred as she said each “they” and you knew she meant YOU — THE EVIL WHITE PERSON.
An American Hero
Sorry to repeat myself, but as others and I have suggested upstream, read Up From Slavery.
Maybe the students should have had a bit of background as well.
OK SUN hit the nail on the head. Booker T. My hero. His only requirement for entrance to his college was a TOOTHBRUSH. He always said that black people would have to learn how to gain respect... totally liked what I read in this book Up From Slavery. The Chapter on HONOR was fabulous
Man up ALL AMERICANS! Break free from government shackles! Be your own man! Be blessed!
The woman is a national embarrassment.
