Ted Cruz issued this statement on his Facebook today in defense of Mark Halperin for his apology over stereotypical Cuban questions he asked in an interview:

Below is Mark Halperin’s apology:
We wanted to talk with Senator Cruz about his outreach to Latino voters the day after he spoke at the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. My intent was to give the Senator a chance to speak further about his heritage and personal connections to the community through some casual questions. I rushed through the questions” and that was a mistake – it led to poor tone and timing. ! also understand why some felt the questions were inappropriate. As for asking Senator Cruz to welcome Senator Sanders to the race in Spanish” that was meant to be the type of light-hearted banter that he’s done with us before on the show. In no way was I asking Senator Cruz to ‘prove’ he was an ‘authentic’ Latino. I apologize to those that were offended” and to Senator Cruz. I promise that I will work to make the tone and questions better next time.

“Cruz proves how naive he is in political life.
Clearly, Cruz is not ready for the big leagues.”
Obviously, you didn’t see the video of the interview.
Yea but the point still holds ;)
I figure the gloves will come all the way off at some point because he;s such a threat to liberals in both parties. The racist crap will ramp up and he will have to get a bit more...direct...in his rebuttals. It’s like night following day. I know he CAN and trust him enough to know when that time will be right to unleash. But it would STILL be nice to see then shut down now before they get a full head of steam up.
That's ok.. I have an agenda and intend to work hard to make sure that Cruz is the last man standing at the end of the primary.
I'm spending effort volunteering for and sending real money to his campaign.

Good grief. Cruz has more class than you could imagine in one brain cell. Magnanimous. It is a real strength.
Good move, Ted!
You’re a much bigger man.
See his post history. Walker supporter. A devout one.
I’m with Cruz on this one. As Sun Tzu says, when your enemy is making a mistake get out of the way.
Class is as class does, and Cruz haz mountains of Class and Grace.

Hey, at least he didn't flip over.
And over.....
Posting drunk and in your underwater is no way to go through life son.
Cruz outclasses these hacks every time.

He sure does. Pamela Geller is also doing a good job of quickly recognizing the traps these not-so-bright interviewers try to spring. The only thing these fools (such as Martha McCallum, who was likely simply trying to curry favor with Bill O’Reilly) achieve is to reveal themselves as willing participants in attempts to bully people into compliance with Sharia.
And one of the brightest political minds any of us have seen.
Great move, now it opens the door for Cruz to demand the left vet their candidates without it being sour grapes.
Agreed, and Cruz calling the questions silly is another way of saying Halperin was unprofessional.I imagine a brilliant lawyer like Ted Cruz doesn't use the word "silly" often except maybe around his little girls; the implied meaning was clear. If Halperin tries it again, Cruz may be forced to add the dreaded "bless his heart", the nuclear option in the language of a southern gentleman, for example:
Today he kindly issued an apology for some silly questions he asked me in an interview, bless his heart.Cruz didn't resort to rudeness while issuing a subtle rebuke. That's what great debaters do best.
and here is Cruz’s statement, which I think is very presidential. No matter who we are along the party divide, we need a presidents who respects us as all Americans.

Mark Halperin is a serious and fair-minded journalist. Today he kindly issued an apology for some silly questions he asked me in an interview. The apology was unnecessary — no offense was taken, nor, I believe, intended — but is certainly appreciated.
I’m proud of my Cuban heritage, my father’s journey from oppression and prison in Cuba to freedom in America, and also my Irish-Italian heritage on my mother’s side. Both are integral parts of who I am today.
The 2016 Republican field is shaping up to be the most diverse in history, and I look forward to a robust and substantive conversation about how we work together to turn around our current stagnation and expand opportunity for everyone to achieve the American Dream.”
The reason senator Cruz had the freedom to be gracious in the apology is because he looked so good in the interview. Most other candidates would be looking for excuses later. Senator Cruz needed no excuse.
